Aimed at ages 4-9yrs, both my children were keen to get stuck in and do the activities.  They loved the characters that they recognised and each page they turned gave out sounds of joy, or “look who it is” and “I want to do this puzzle”.  Some of the characters are part of collectible series which are really popular at the moment and seem to appeal to children of these ages.

With the magazine packed back to back with popular and recognisable characters, the children were kept occupied and became excited to turn the pages and see who was on the next page.  Mixit magazine is fun, up to date and full of things children love and want to see.  With familiar faces on every page it’s sure to be a hit with everyone that reads it so check it out in shops now!

Bing Magazine Review

Bing magazine is a brand new release this year from Egmont aimed at 3-5 year olds, full of fun activities that really do capture little ones imagination.  Bing is a bunny who has lots of fun and my little boy already enjoys watching the series on CBeebies.

bing magazineMister B is 5, so at the upper age range for this magazine but was really excited to receive it and kept asking when he can start doing Bing bunny!  He really enjoyed the garden toys attached to the front and has been playing with them everyday in his own little imaginative way.

bing magazine 3Each page of the magazine has things to do with a sticker sheet in the centre that is used across various pages.  There is a story, basic writing activities, colouring and plenty of pages to use the stickers on.

bing magazine 2

There’s really fun page with a vegetable patch on and another page with lots of vegetables that you can rip apart and stick onto the vegetable patch which I thought was really cute and got us talking about vegetables.  Mister B’s favourite though was making silly faces with the stickers on a page of potatoes!

bing magazine 4

I think Bing magazine is lovely for little ones, I like the themes running through it and thought it had a good balance of activities.

We received the magazine to review and received compensation for this post.

Cbeebies Swashbuckle Magazine

Swashbucklers, a children’s game show on Cbeebies is one programme that both my children love to watch.  They enjoy watching the challenges and always stand up to join in with the Swashbuckle Salute which they know and love.

Launched today is a fantastic new magazine, Swashbuckle, aimed at children aged 3-6, jam packed full of piratey fun!

swashbucklersThe magazine has all the characters from the program, Captain Sinker, Gem, Cook and Line and 4yr old Mister B couldn’t wait to get stuck in and complete the activities inside.  Firstly he was eager to open the gift on the front of the magazine, of which there will be a different gift on each issue.  Issue 1 includes a pirate hat, game spinner and a treasure chest with five coloured gems.  I think the free gift is brilliant and has had brought much entertainment to Mister B as he hides the jewels for his sister to find.

swashbucklers 1Inside are pages packed full of activities along with a sheet of 70 stickers.  There is so much to do and we sat down for a couple of hours and still didn’t reach the end.  There are sticker pages, questions, matching activities, stories, colouring and much more.

swashbucklers 2Some of our favourite pages that we thought were a bit different were looking through the telescope to see the octopus and learning all about octopuses.  We also downloaded the free Blippa app to our iPad which allowed us to scan certain pages where we saw the Blippa icon and it brought up a video clip for us to watch such as Gem doing the Swashbuckle salute or a real life octopus swimming about in the ocean.

swashbucklers 3We’ve thoroughly enjoyed Swashbuckle magazine and can’t wait to see the next issue.  With so much to do, and a pirate theme, this is sure to be a hit with most kids and great value for money too!

Women’s Health Magazine – Review

Women’s Health magazine from Unique Magazines, is a lifestyle magazine for females covering all aspects of life from diet, nutrition, exercise, beauty, fashion, relationships and more.

magThis months edition features Britney Spears on the front cover who is interviewed and talks about her current fitness regime.  There is also a page of exercises you can follow at home that Britney currently does in the ‘Totally Drenched’ fitness class she regularly attends.

The magazine as a whole is well thought out and does contain lots of reading material.  There are loads of food, nutrition, skincare and relationship tips in a series of pages entitled The Brief which gives you snippets of facts and information across each topic.

There are various other exercise pages you can follow at home which is great for me as I’m currently on a mission to feel fit and fab at 40!  One useful article explores high street food chains and shows you a healthy option to choose against and unhealthy meal choice.  Some of the differences in calories can be quite surprising!

mag 2The article on breakfast pots gives you ten ideas on super healthy and filling breakfast ideas, some not what you’d conventionally expect to see on a breakfast menu, but definitely a great way to start the day and see you through to lunchtime!

I’m quite surprised by both the quantity and variety of articles in this magazine and it has lots of great ideas I can incorporate into my new healthy lifestyle.  There are even some pages on fashion – just what I need to look fit and fab at 40!

Why not check the magazine out yourself, whether you are looking to start a new healthy lifestyle or just want to find out about simple everyday things to look good, feel fit and boost your daily nutritional intake, then this magazine would be perfect for you!

Abney and Teal Magazine – Review

Abney and Teal is one of the hit tv show on Cbeebies.  My two both watch it which kind of surprises me as I’ve never really taken too much notice of it myself although if they like it, then it’s the sort of programme I’m happy for them to watch.  It seems to have a calm nature but one that keeps them intrigued hence why I was happy to review the new Abney and Teal magazine.

abney tealFirst impressions where that it had a winning musical instrument set on the front – something my two loved!  Although I’m sure I’m not the only parent to say that the recorder sounded like a whistle that my little boy decided to repeatedly blow on for days on end – not that I’m complaining – he obviously enjoyed it showing that the magazine was a hit with him.

abney teal 2I next looked inside the magazine and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the  pages.  Either filled with stories or worthwhile activities that kept my just turned 4yrs old Mister B thoroughly entertained and wanting for more.  From adding stickers to practising letters, counting objects or making his way through a maze, Mister B didn’t want to stop.  He knew all the characters and immediately declared his favourite as Toby dog.  He was totally familiar with the neeps and the poc pocs – obviously I haven’t been watching it enough lately!

abney teal 3This magazine totally gripped my newly 4 year old. He was eager to learn through the activities and loved the familiarity of characters he knew.  I’d definitely buy this magazine again based on the amount of interaction my little boy has had with it, to be honest I’ve been pleasantly surprised!

The magazine was released on 23rd October, why not grab a copy now?

LEGO Friends Magazine – Review

LEGO Friends magazine is a new monthly title that hit the shops last week aimed for girls around the 7-11 age range.  Each magazine features a free LEGO gift, the first one being Charlie the puppy dog set.

lego friendsThe first issue has introductions to some of the LEGO Friends girls such as Olivia, Emma and Mia, giving you little bios about each of them.  There are also several comic strip stories, posters, quizs, puzzles and some fabulous LEGO sets to be won in competitions.  There is a also a nice craft activity included to make tissue flowers.

Lego friends magazineMy daughter Miss M is 6 and became a fan of LEGO friends at Christmas when she received a few sets and then some more on her birthday.  I’d say this is the perfect magazine for her, lots of fun things to do and is totally aimed for someone of her age.

She is a competent reader for her age and happily sat reading through the comic strip stories.  She couldn’t wait to get the LEGO pieces off of the front and put them to together, which she did completely unaided.  These are cute pieces that easily go alongside any other LEGO that you have.  In fact she is incredibly excited about the free gift on the next issue, a cute beach set with a LEGO bucket and flippers for the LEGO friends to wear on their feet!

lego friends 2For me, this is the perfect magazine for my daughter, the content is just right for her and I don’t have to worry about what she might be reading.  She’s enjoys sitting reading it in bed before sleeping, played with the LEGO during the day and doing the puzzles during the day.

When I asked what she thought about the magazine, her reply was “I love it!”, and I have to agree, this is just the sort of magazine I’d buy for her with a lovely quality toy attached.

The first issue is in the shops now, so why not grab a copy?

Transformers : Age of Extinction – Comic Review

Transformers : Age of Extinction is a brand new comic released this week.  Aimed at ages 6+, it’s packed full of games, puzzles, comic strips and competitions.

cover magMy children aged 6 and nearly 4 were really excited when they saw this, Mister B loves transformers and couldn’t wait to get his hands on the free gift figurine attached to the magazine which now comes out and about with us everywhere!  They loved looking through at all the characters, some old and some brand new ones along with character bios and activities.  Being older Miss M loved doing the wordsearch and Mister B enjoyed the comic strip stories being read to him at bedtime.

transformersI do think this magazine has wide appeal and comes each month with free gifts including Topps cards and autobot figures.  There are some great competitions to be won inside too.

Available monthly, the first issue is in shops now with the second issue coming out on 24th July.  If you have a child that enjoys transformers then why not pick up a copy now?

Girl Talk Magazine Launches #Girls Are Amazing Campaign

Girl Talk magazine celebrates it’s 500th issue this week and are launching a #Girls Are Amazing campaign to promote positive female role models and broaden ambition in young girls.  This comes in direct response to a recent readership survey where some unsettling and surprising results revealed:

“that an overwhelming 80% of young girls wanted to be referred to as “pretty”, “kind” and “funny”, with only 20% choosing “clever”, “strong” or “brave” as important attributes.”

Girl Talk 500th Edition Cover Shot
With my daughter Miss M being 6, I am wary of the future influences that she’ll be around and the way the media will encourage her to think.  She is a very strong willed young girl, determined to make her own decisions although so far I think she’s on the right track, being a sporty, outdoors kind of girl avoiding some of the more girly activities out there.  She is yet to show an interest in pop stars and media idols, which I’m pleased about as I’d like her to enjoy her childhood without growing up too fast.  I have to say though that I do think she’s AMAZING in nearly every way, but of course I am her mum.

girl talk

Girl Talk is a pre teen magazine aimed at 7-12 year olds and they plan to run the #Girls Are Amazing campaign throughout the year with features appearing in every issue of the magazine.  They’ll be featuring career profiles and stories of inspirational women excelling in sport, science, business, technology and lots more. There will be stories from Girl Talk readers who’ve achieved something great plus opinion pieces about issues affecting them.  Also they will be running an amazing BFFs competition in partnership with Westfield, where they’ll be looking for the UK’s best BFFs! The winners will get a chance to be Girl Talk cover stars and receive fantastic prizes.

Girl Talk want to hear from pre-teen girls all over, their thoughts and ideas about being a girl, their life, heroes and dreams, to put those opinions in the magazine and celebrate each others’ achievements.

Do you know any girls around the age of 7-12 years?  Girl Talk would love to hear their thoughts and opinions on being a girl and any AMAZING stories that they’d like to share to go in a future edition of the magazine!
