I’ve always enjoyed having plants and vases of flowers around the house but since having children I only have the odd one or two, and vases of flowers are always awkward as I have to place them out of reach for fear of them being knocked over.
So when The Joy of Plants suggested that having a plant around the house would improve my lifestyle, I was more than happy to give it a go.

I received a stunning Orchid and immediately placed it as centerpiece on my fireplace. For the first few days I couldn’t stop admiring it – it was simply gorgeous. I have to be honest and say that having this plant around has definitely had a postive impact on my day to day life.
It always catches my eye as I sit on the sofa with it’s delicate flowers and makes me smile. It adds a bit of colour in front of a dark fireplace and lifts the room making it feel calmer and more relaxing. I definitely think it brightens my day and I’m already planning a couple more plants around the house in child friendly places.
Miss M, my 5yr old daughter loves to look at it each day to see how it’s doing, her favourite task is giving it a drink although we are being careful not to overwater it. It’s great as it gives her a sense of responsibility helping me out with it so although I enjoy the beauty of it, the children like caring for the plant. I have also had a few comments from visitors to say what a beautiful plant when they come into the room. That always makes me smile as who doesn’t enjoy a compliment!
