Thunderbirds Dress Up Costume – Review

Thunderbirds is a popular family favourite that most people are familiar with whatever age they are, so this new Scott Tracy dress up costume from Pretend to Bee will be a hit with a lot of children.

Thunderbirds

Available in sizes that will fit ages from 3 up to 10 years, the costume has wide appeal and has an extra fun hidden sound button.  The costume is designed in shades of blue with various detailing such as a badge design on the sleeve as well as padding across the upper chest area and shoulders.  There is velcro down the back to get it on and off and also an additional small zip at the front.

Thunderbirds 4There are also a few detachable parts that simply velcro on.  A padded sash goes from one shoulder down to the waist with strong velcro either end and behind the middle of the sash you can velcro on a little sound button which proved to be rather fun and had 5yr old Mister B very excited and kept him playing in the costume for hours.  There are also two padded gauntlets that go over the lower arms and velcro around the back for added dimension to the costume.

The sound button on the costume is really effective and brought lots of fun when playing with.  It says in the familiar voice “5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Thunderbirds are Go, **a big blast of sound**”.

Listen to the sound in the video below, it’s sounds much louder in real life, your little boy will just want to try it!

The Thunderbirds costume is brilliant, I love it and my little boy loves it, so we would definitely recommend it.  It’s had lots of wear already in the short time that we’ve had it and I’m sure it will get plenty more.  I think when a child puts the costume on themselves in the morning you can be sure it is a hit!

Our Captain America costume arrived and Mister B’s eyes lit up, he couldn’t wait to try it on.  The costume comes in two pieces, an all in one suit that you step into and has velcro to do up at the back and a mask that has velcro to attach under the chin.  The outfit is flexible and comfortable

Mister B got straight into character when wearing the costume and showed me his Captain America poses.  He loved wearing the outfit, found it comfortable and has had hours of fun being a superhero, which is what costumes are all about.  The outfit seems well stitched and although fairly thin is durable and easy for kids to get on themselves.  I think we’ll have lots of fun with this over the next couple of years.

Frozen Princess Elsa Dress Up Costume – Review

Frozen is the hit Disney film has created a huge buzz among young girls this year and Miss M is no exception,  so when I heard that Otley Run Fancy Dress have added a selection of children’s Frozen costumes to their website I was eager to check them out.

Miss M has decided on a Frozen theme for her 7th birthday so this dress is the perfect outfit for her to wear!

elsa 4As you can see this dress is a gorgeous blue satin full length skirt with a sequin bodice and silver detail along the waistline and top.  There is a detachable Elsa badge in the centre.  There are chiffon style sleeves and the most gorgeous full length attached chiffon cape covered in glimmery snowflakes.

elsa 2I’ve seen a few versions of the Elsa dress around recently and would definitely say this is the best quality of the ones I’ve found.  Miss M adores the flowing cape, even though it’s attached, it really does make the costume stand out from the others.

We found the sizing of this particular dress to be on the small size and found the size up to be best fitting for Miss M and I can honestly say she loves it.  She can’t wait to show her friends at her birthday party in 7 weeks time!

elsa 3This is the sort of outfit I would expect to receive if I ordered from a fancy dress company and would certainly not be let down.  It has been a hit with both me and my daughter therefore I’d definitely recommend, although I’d suggest going a size up if you want this to last.

This dress up costume totally represents Princess Elsa from Frozen which is what most young girls are looking for right now.  I’d recommend this for any Frozen fan wanting to dress up as their idol and be the princesss of their dreams!

World Book Day, Pirates and Holiday Reading

World Book Day is an opportunity for us all to get inspired to read and pick up a book.

World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

The idea is for publishers and bookshops to promote books and reading to everyone in the hope that we get pleasure and enjoyment out of reading.  In the UK World Book Day is keen for children to be encouraged to read and it’s promoted across schools where children are issued with a voucher for a free book or money off a higher value book.

Miss M’s school is no exception and today are celebrating with a Pirate themed day at school.  All the days activities are centred around pirates, all the children seem so excited.  Miss M was dressed before I got out of bed this morning (unheard of!), as she couldn’t wait to get her pirate costume on ready.

World book day 2 At school they will be singing lots of pirate songs as well as reading pirate themed books.  I think it’s great to make a topic fun that children enjoy and encourage them to read at the same time.

world book day 1As important as it is for children to read books, I think it’s a great way for adults to relax too.  There’s nothing better than having a good book to read and enjoy.  I used to be an avid reader but since having children I struggle with time.  I do like to take a book on holiday though and can usually manage a chapter or two while the children play.

Thomas cook have come up with a clever new app to help you pick a book to take with you on holiday.  Just enter your holiday destination and favourite book genre and it will suggest the perfect book to read while you are away.  It even includes books for children and teenagers so a great way for everyone to find book inspiration before a holiday.

Why not try the Holiday Book Selector and see what your perfect holiday book would be?

Tree Fu Tom Magic Sapstone Belt and Holopax Set – Review

Since Tree Fu Tom the programme launched on CBeebies, it has always been in Miss M’s list of favourites so she was really excited when we were given the chance to try Tree Fu Tom’s Magic Sapstone Belt and Holopax,  part of the new range of Tree Fu Tom toys from Flair.

Tree Fu Tom

The Tree Fu Tom TV series is set in an enchanted world where movement creates magic. Tom may appear to be a normal eight-year-old boy, but by putting on his magic belt and performing a special sequence of magic action-movements (known as Tree Fu), he transforms into a tiny but mighty magical super-hero! The show advocates the importance of movement and encourages kids to get up and move as they help Tom make Tree Fu magic and save the day!

As soon as we received the Magic Sapstone Belt and Holopax set, there was an immediate battle between Miss M and Mister B as to who was going to wear it first!  The belt has a motion activated glow – the more the child moves, the brighter the Sapstone glows.  Miss M loved this and couldn’t wait to for the next episode of Tree Fu Tom to come on so she could join in the actions.  It really does encourage children to move about – I don’t think she’s ever sat down whilst wearing it and is constantly running up and down the hallway and dancing around the front room in order to get the light to glow.

Tree Fu Tom

This is definitely a great toy to encourage activity in a child and even more fun if they are big Tree Fu Tom fans which mine are – Mister B tries to go to bed wearing the Holopax on his wrist – something he now wears all day long!!

Miss M’s final verdict:

Tree Fu Tom toys can be bought from Toys r us and The Entertainer.
