Superdrug Some Body Range of Protein Snacks

Superdrug have launched a new range of Some Body healthy snacks and shakes filled with protein and optimised to be part of a healthy lifestyle.  The range is quite extensive and different to any other similar style brands I’ve seen with some interesting and unique products.  As well as protein powder to make shakes and protein packed snack bars you can find detox tea, flavoured waters, pancake mix and popcorn!

With the start of 2018 initiating a lot of New Year New You thoughts for people the Some Body range has hit the shelves at the right time and fits well into my current lifestyle of trying to eat healthier, get fitter and feel better before the Summer months come along.

New research from Superdrug has revealed that for 6 out of 10 Brits a simple compliment in January is the way to stay motivated with New Year goals, with 88% believing more compliments need to be given in January than any other month to encourage, inspire and motivate during the bleak cold winter.  I definitely agree with this and certainly think a comment brightens someones day!

Dr Becky Spelman, Registered Practitioner Psychologist & member of BABCP backs the findings, saying, “When it comes to getting fit, losing weight, or focusing on our health, positive acknowledgement is very useful. Hearing that we are looking good from people, and that the time and effort we have invested in our health are bearing fruit, actually spurs us on to do even more.”

So onto the products, first up I’ve been trying this Some Body Banana Protein Powder to make up a shake for my breakfast each morning.  I find that when I get up it’s too early to eat and I don’t really have time to sit down and consume a bowl of cereal so this is an ideal way for me to get my morning energy boost and keep me going throughout the first part of the day – it also helps prevent me from snacking on things I shouldn’t be!

glass full of frothy banana protein shake

What I love about it is that not only is it quick and simple to make but you can use either water or milk to add to the powder.  A quick shake up of the ingredients and you have a truly nutritious and filling shake to drink!

I always find snack bars handy to have with me when out and about or if you get that afternoon slump at work and the Some Body Natural Protein Salted Fudge Bar is perfect for that.  Being 100% natural in it’s ingredients, it tastes moist and delicious and certainly fills a little hole in a better way than a chocolate bar would.

Some Body Sweet & Salt Popcorn is a great idea for grazing on during the day or ideal to perk up your Saturday night with.  It tastes utterly delicious with a light but crisp texture, the mix of salt and sweet is just perfect and quite frankly I could eat a bag of this every day – really impressed with the flavour and at just 116 calories for the bag  – who could say no?

The product I was most intrigued to try was the Some Body Protein Pancake Mix.  With 4 pre portioned sachets that just require mixing with water before cooking what could be simpler? I made two mid sized pancakes with a sachet and before they had even cooked I knew from the smell I couldn’t wait to try them.  Even though they are plain they have a rich thick mixture with a sweet taste and along with a bit of fruit are the perfect snack to fill you up with their added protein and give you that burst of energy that’s sometimes needed.

Overall I have to say I’ve been really impressed with the Some Body range from Superdrug.  It looks quite simplistic but actually they’ve developed some really tasty products that fill you up and are satisfying to eat.  I’ll definitely be visiting the Some Body shelves in Superdrug next time I pass by to stock up on some of these healthy goodies to incorporate into my attempt at a healthier, cleaner eating lifestyle!

Apple & Pear Pancakes inspired by Fruit Shoot

My children love drinking Robinson’s Fruit Shoot, perfect to take out and about or stick in a pack lunch.  It’s really good to know that a Fruit Shoot contains real fruit, in fact there’s real fruit in every drop of Fruit Shoot and each and every one is filled with multi-vitamins. Better still, there’s no added sugar, artificial colours or flavourings at all.

Inspired by the inclusion of real fruit, ex- Great British Bake Off star, Holly Bell has curated some delicious recipes suitable for the whole family that include real fruit for added flavour and nutrition.  We decided to try the Apple & Pear Pancakes out as they sounded nice and warming with the added cinnamon for the cold Autumn evenings that are upon us.

Ingredients for the Apples & Pears:

  • 1 apple & 1 pear peeled, cored and cut into chunks
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • maple syrup for serving

Ingredients for the pancakes:

  • 180ml milk
  • 30 ml lemon juice
  • 130g plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • vegetable oil
  • maple syrup for serving

Method:

  • Place the apples, pears, lemon juice and cinnamon into a small saucepan and cook over a low heat for about 10 minutes until soft
  • Make the pancake batter by mixing the milk and lemon juice into a jug.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients together
  • Crack the egg into the milk and lemon mixture and whisk
  • Pour liquid mix over the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Add the apples and pears now or can be served seperately on top of the finished pancakes
  • Heat the oil and add small amounts of batter at a time to form each pancake, cook on both sides until just brown until all batter used u
  • Serve on a plate with fruit and maple syrup

The children were first to taste and declared them delicious  They were quick and simple to make, my daughter enjoyed helping me and most of all it was a tasty family dessert with some added real fruit – just like Fruit Shoots!

Warburton’s Chocolate Chip & Cookie Pancakes – Review

Warburton’s has to be one of my favourite brands of bread, the seeded batch is one of the best pre sliced loafs I’ve found on the supermarket shelf, so knowing how good the quality was, I was delighted to receive a selection of Warburton’s pancakes to try yesterday for Shrove Tuesday.

The selection included Soft & Sweet, Chocolate Chip Cookie and Cookie flavours.

warburtons1There are six in each packet of Warburton’s pancakes and they can be eaten hot or cold.  I tried a chocolate chip one cold and my first impression was how soft and moist the pancake was with a nice splattering of chocolate chips across the surface.

After dinner it was time to warm them up.  We decided to compliment the cookie and chocolate chip flavours of the pancakes by serving them with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Miss M was my chief taste tester, she took one mouthful and sat there with a silent grin erupting across her face and her hand rubbing her tummy before saying:

“These are so nice mummy, can I have some more when I’ve finished this one?”

warburtons 2Well, I think that says it all.  Daddy and I enjoyed them too but then I don’t think you can ever go wrong with Warburton’s!  Not only for the taste and quality but the convenience.  This are ideal for busy families as we were yesterday, daddy and I at work all day, then picking the children up, the last thing I wanted to do was beat some eggs and flip some pancakes.  With Warburton’s you can just heat and serve with the added bonus of being already flavoured which if I haven’t already mentioned is delicious.  We loved both the chocolate chip and the cookie flavours – I’d definitely recommend these!!
