Incredibles 2 Puzzles from Jumbo Games – Review & Giveaway

Incredibles 2 has landed on the big screen and is a fun family film featuring the Elastigirl, Mr Incredible, Jack-Jack, Violet and Dash as they go about their normal day to day life before coming together again to save the day.  Jumbo Games have come up with these fun, great quality puzzles for children of various ages to do.  I love that they have both a 100 piece one aimed at children 5+ and a 200 piece one for 7+.

My little boy age 7 was eager to give them a try so we got our puzzle mats out and he started with the 100 piece.  He loved the chunky pieces, and before long he completed it entirely on his own.  He then moved onto the 200 piece which did prove a little more tricky.  I know he is able so always make him do the puzzles on his own, but hint and point out areas that would be easy to start with.  He always starts with the edges and I helped him find them but he put them all together.

He then move onto the the eyes and faces of the Incredibles 2 characters as these are the prominent areas and the pieces were easy to pick out and he could identify where they went on the board.

By the end of the day both puzzles were completed and I had one very proud little boy!  These Incredibles 2 puzzles are great fun and come in lovely bright colours to keep kids interested.  Featuring the characters from the film, they are instantly recognisable and kids love to see images they associate with.

To celebrate the release of the film, I have both of these Jumbo Games Incredibles 2 puzzles to give away to one lucky reader.  If you want to enter just fill in the Gleam form below:

Storks comes to DVD

Storks is the fantastic new family film that’s been enjoyed in cinema’s recently and now been released on DVD to enjoy at home.  A family favourite this is great for adults and kids alike and is perfect for my 6 and 9 year olds to enjoy.  With fast paced easy to understand storylines and humourous scenes, we couldn’t wait to watch it for the first time as a family at home on the sofa.

Storks deliver babies… or at least they used to. Now they deliver packages for global internet giant Cornerstore.com. Junior, the company’s top delivery stork, is about to be promoted when he accidentally activates the Baby Making Machine, producing an adorable baby girl. Desperate to deliver this bundle of trouble before the boss gets wise, Junior and his friend Tulip race to make their first-ever baby drop – in a wild and revealing journey that could make more than one family whole and restore the storks’ true mission in the world.

The film quickly gets into the storyline and both my children quickly became engrossed in the film and were silent throughout – always a good sign!  They laughed and were kept entertained throughout.

After it finished I asked for their thoughts:

Mister B ” It was aweswome – can we watch it again?”

Miss M ” It was a brilliant film, I loved watching it”

I think that says it all, we as adults enjoyed watching it to and I think it makes a great film for us all to sit down and watch together.

If you haven’t seen it yet, plan your next weekend, get a copy of Storks on DVD and sit down with the family at watch it!

Finding Dory – Book of the Film

Disney Pixar Finding Dory Book of the Film from Parragon books tells the sequel story to the Finding Nemo film that was a big hit a few years ago.  We haven’t seen the film Finding Dory but the children were exciting to receive the book and get reading.  My 8yr old read it herself over a a couple of weeks and really enjoyed it.  She then passed it to her younger brother age 6 who was really keen to listen to the story and we happily read him a couple of chapters each night before bed.

finding-dory

Forgetful Dory is very happy living in the ocean with her friends, Marlin and Nemo. But one day, memories of her long-lost parents come flooding back to her. With the help of old friends and new, including Hank the septopus, can Dory finally discover her past?

The story follows Dory on her adventures where she meets old friends such as Destiny the whale who recognises her and helps tell her about her past.  She finds many friendly faces along the way in this exciting adventure.

In the centre of the book are 8 full colour picture pages which really help bring the story to life.  Mister B, my 6 year old really enjoyed looking at these to remind him what the characters looked like and retell the story in his own words.  The chapters are short meaning you can easily pick the book up and just read a few pages or a few chapters if you have more time.

wp_20161221_15_09_57_proBoth children have enjoyed the story and found it fun to read and listen to.  For any fans of the Finding Nemo or Finding Dory films then this is the perfect book to keep them entertained and read about all the fishy friends having fun together.

Pororo_DVD_3d-FINAL

The adventure continues as gets a super sled of his own and battles amongst the other teams such as the tigers and the brown bears to compete for the title.  Along the way Pororo inspires both the commentators and the other animals, making this a cute, fun film that I have to say both my children really enjoyed watching.

8yr old Miss M’s verdict: “Brilliant, I love it!.  I liked it because it was quite funny.  I thought the best part was when Pororo fell down a hole and one of the turtles came to rescue him.  Another part I really liked was when Pororo got stuck at the start and had the lollipop boost and was colourful in the air”

5yr old Mister B’s verdict: “Really good, the bit I liked was when the penguin was in the lead of the race.  I liked when the funny men were in the airplane and their yellow thing fell off – that was so funny!”

Paper Planes DVD Review & Giveaway

Paper Planes is a great newly released film by Lionsgate, about an eleven year old Australian boy, Dylan, and his ambition to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan.

3D_Paper_Planes_packshot

His passion for inventing and creating paper planes is clear to see and the film follows his journey to come up with the best paper plane.  Having lost his mother at a young age and with an unsupportive father he is on his own until he meets up with the current Japanese champion Kimi, who he strikes up a friendship with, which helps boost his self esteem and enthusiasm.  The film follows various emotions from start to finish including friendship, family, trust and self belief.

My 8yr old daughter sat glued to this film during it’s entirety, she thoroughly enjoyed it and I think it was totally appropriate for her age.  I enjoyed the film too, and it is definitely something I would have watched when I was younger, but equally something I loved sitting down to watch as a family now.  It has a feel good factor to it and happy endings all round.

I have a copy of the Paper Planes DVD to giveaway to one of my readers, just fill in the Gleam form below:

The Snowman™ and The Snowdog Great Festive Bake Off Blog Tour

The animated film of The Snowman first graced our screens back in 1982 when I was just seven years old, although it is one of those films that I remember clearly and have watched many times over during it’s annual viewing each Christmas.  The 20th anniversary film released in 2012 shares the snowman’s adventure with another little boy along with a Snowdog, of which has become one of my little boy’s favourite cuddly toys since taking part in last years blog tour.  If you haven’t seen the film or want to watch it again then keep your eyes peeled as The Snowman™ and The Snowdog will be shown on Channel 4 again this Christmas!

Snowman Bake off bannerThis year we have received some lovely Snowman & Snowdog gifts to try out as shown below.

snowdogThe Snowman Indoor Light String with LED bulbs is available from Christmas Trees and Lights priced at £15.99.  The set contains 10 moulded snowman which gently illuminate to a soft glow.  The set requires 2AA batteries to operate it, which I do like as it means they can be hung anywhere.  We chose to hang them from our picture rail between our lounge and dining room.  The children really love these lights and can’t wait for me to turn them on each evening.

snowdog 2A product that will always prove popular in this house is chocolate and when it’s a white chocolate snowman from Thornton’s, you know you are onto a winner!  The chocolate is creamy and very yummy, a firm favourite with my little ones and also myself, great for a Christmas treat!

snowmanThe fun twist on this years Snowman & Snowdog blog tour is a bake off along with the other bloggers taking part.  We have all been sent this lovely set of Snowman & Snowdog biscuit cutters available from John Lewis and Party Delights to see what we could come up with.

snowman 3I didn’t have to ask my children twice if they wanted to help, they absolutely adore baking, and as soon as I mentioned we were starting they were in the kitchen doing up each others aprons and sitting at the work top ready to begin.  Due to an imminent house move my food processor is all packed up, so luckily the children love getting their hands in the bowl and effortlessy rubbed the butter into the flour for our biscuit mixture.  They then rolled out and cut a variety of shapes ready for baking.

snowdog 3I love their results, so sparkly and festive!

snowdog 4And aren’t these snowdogs super cute?

snowdog 5Then it was mummy’s turn with the other half of the mixture.  I carefully cut and baked my shapes before attempting to ice them!  I’d had a long weekend of DIY at my new house and was feeling pretty shattered, so was a little rushed, but I gave it my best shot!

snowdog 6I really enjoyed this challenge and found it really fun to do.  I’ll definitely be trying out some more biscuit designs in the new year when I have a bit more time on my hands.

snowdog 7Mister B’s snowdog came down to the kitchen for a visit and approved of my biscuit creations of him and thought the children would love them!

snowdog 8I have to say the finished biscuits are very tasty and the children couldn’t wait to sample them. I can confirm they do taste absolutely delicious are make the perfect festive treat this Christmas time.

Win 1 of 5 The Little Reindeer DVD’s and Review

The Little Reindeer DVD is an ideal Christmas film for young children.  It’s animated in a magical way to engage little ones and is accompanied by music rather than voices.  My two sat down to watch this and were mesmerised throughout watching the story of The Little Reindeer and his adventures with a little boy.

Little ReindeerOn Christmas Eve the little reindeer is exploring Santa’s
workshop when he accidentally falls into the giftwrapping
machine, and finds himself being delivered as a present! The
little boy who receives him is overjoyed and sets about building
him a home, but soon discovers that his reindeer is no
ordinary reindeer, he can fly! After many magical adventures
together, Christmas comes around again and it’s time for
Santa to retrieve his lost gift!

With a running time of 26 minutes this was the perfect length for my two children.  They sat quietly watching it and it really brought the Christmas spirit into the front room.  They both enjoyed it and would happily watch over and over.  This is great for the Christmas season as it is something to occupy little ones with, although not too long to lose their attention.  It really does have a  magical feel and is something that would be watched year after year.

The Little Reindeer DVD was released on 28th October 2013 and can be purchased from all good DVD stockists.
