The idea of a robotic vacuum cleaner is something I’ve been eyeing up for a while, so when the opportunity arose to test out the Eufy RoboVac 15C I jumped at the chance, keen to put it through it’s paces in my family home.

The Eufy Robovac 15C comes with all the required accessories and is super easy to set up and start using, although does require an initial charge of up to 6 hours prior to use. Two of the side brushes need to be simply attached underneath (the other two are spares), the batteries need to be put into the remote control and then it’s just a case of plugging in the charger and sitting the Eufy on the charging plate. If it’s flashing orange then it’s currently charging and solid blue means it’s fully charged.

You do need to keep your RoboVac on charge all the time in order to be able to regularly use it and it does require a fair amount of space round the charging unit to allow itself to manoeuvre and find it’s own way back to the docking station.

I love the way you can sit the remote control on the back of the charging unit so that you always know where it is and it keeps it all together tidily.

There are various settings to use when cleaning using the Eufy RoboVac 15C and also multiple ways to control it. You can simply press the large on/off switch on top of the unit itself. You also have the remote control which contains buttons for each of the various actions but alternatively you can download the Eufyhome app on your phone or even use Google Home or Alexa to set the RoboVac into action!

Most commonly used is the Auto function which just starts and stops the RoboVac but the 30 minute setting is good as it will clean for this length of time and then return to the docking station to recharge. You can also spot clean, concentrate on the edges or boost the suction.

Set up is super easy as is controlling the RoboVac – I can honestly say it’s so simple to use and I find both the app and the remote control very user friendly – just what I want and need for a gadget I’ll be using daily and one that will save me time.

So as you can see the RoboVac is an absolute joy to own and something that I think totally fits into the modern lifestyle and helps automate everyday housework.

Every week or so the Eufy RoboVac 15C does require a little attention as does any vacuum cleaner by checking the underside and unclogging any hair etc from the rollers.

There is also a helpful guide on the underside to troubleshoot any issues it’s having where it will beep or flash to indicate particular problems. Fortunately I haven’t had to use this yet as it has run perfectly ok for me over the last few weeks.

My key questions!

With a busy family household I did have some concerns as to how the RoboVac would perform so here are some of the thoughts that were running through my head before trying it:

Would it really pick up much dirt and dust and be worthwhile? – It’s been amazing to see how full the dust collector is after each time of using the RoboVac and it’s clear it is really using suction to gather up all the bits of dirt that it can – definitely worth using.

How would it tackle my long hair? – It’s been fine, the main roller brush underneath does collect up my hair and needs cutting off once a week, the same as my manual vacuum cleaner, so no difference there.

How would it clean around the edges? – Better than expected, the side brushes do sweep bits of dirt in towards the dust collector and the RoboVac does buffer itself around the edge of each room during it’s cycle so there is no obvious dirt left around the edges of each room.

Would you be able to use it upstairs without it falling off the top stair? – Oh my – I was petrified the first time I tried this and jumped as it reached the edge but it exceeded my expectations and clearly can tell a sharp decline in floor level and reverses itself.

Would it really reduce the time I needed to use my main vacuum cleaner or is it gimmicky? – Definitely not a gimmick – this really does mean you can leave your manual vacuum cleaner tucked away in the cupboard and only bring it out once a week/fortnight to do the stairs/top of skirting boards and around any tricky furniture, like down the sides of cupboards, behind things etc.

Will it save me time? – Yes, yes, yes!!! Knowing your RoboVac will do the job for you means you can concentrate on what you want to do – so whether that be put your feet up and read a book or do a family activity with the kids, then you can whilst the cleaning is being done automatically for you.

Will my children get in the way? – Well at first it is such a novelty to watch and the children love to follow it around and jump out of it’s way but now I just tell them I’m putting Eufy on and shut the door to the room they are in and it gets on with the job. Although now I’m more confident with Eufy I tend to set it to run when I’m home alone or in the evenings when we are watching tv etc.

My Top Tips

Do’s

Tidy away any small or dangly items away before letting the RoboVac loose around the house.
Block any areas you don’t want it to vacuum, either by shutting a door or putting something in the way.
Try and use the RoboVac when you are either out, or busy/chilling in one area so it can get on and do it’s own thing.

Don’ts

Don’t sit watching the RoboVac – it is a complete waste of time once you are confident with what it does and the whole object of owning one is to save time!
Don’t forget to empty the dust container every few days or so to ensure it isn’t full and keep it efficient – it’s only small so fills up quickly!
Don’t turn the switch off at the plug as it continually charges and is always ready for it’s next clean.

Would I recommend the Eufy RoboVac 15C as a great gadget to own in a family household? – The answer is a big fat yes from me! At just over £200 this is a very reasonable purchase for a vacuum cleaner and alongside a simple upright model to cover off the stairs, then you are sorted for all your family cleaning needs!

One thing I’m short of in my home is storage, particularly since having children, so when I had the chance to try out some Packmate vacuum storage bags, how could I refuse? I’ve never tried vacuum storage before and wondered how effective it would be. I was sent a selection from the range available including jumbo, large and travel bags.

The first thing I noticed was the black leaf design on the Packmate bags which I found really appealing, they would look attractive even if they are stored under the bed or in the wardrobe. The reverse side of each bag with the valve is clear so you can see what’s inside. Living so far from my family I have a couple of spare duvets, various blankets and things that are only used occasionally and if I could condense them, I’d have more storage for other things. So the next step was to try them out. They were easy to fill with their wide opening on one side which is easily closed by a plastic zip that slides across. There is a simple valve on the clear side of the bag which lifts to open, then you apply the hose of the vacuum cleaner to expel the air from the bag before pushing the valve down to close it.

One item that took up a lot of room was our guest double duvet which is stored in a zipped bag under my daughter’s bed. I took this out, rolled it up and but it in a large Packmate high volume storage bag. I then expelled the air and result can be seen below, it takes up a fraction of the space it did before leaving me additional room to add extra items such as a couple of pillows to the bag.

I am impressed at how well the Packmate vacuum bags have performed, leaving me with lots of extra room in the house, these are the ideal space savers, great if you only have a small space or have a lot of things. Vacuum bags are great for items that you don’t use regularly particularly large bedding items or cushions. Another advantage of using these bags for storage is that they protect against moisture, mildew, bugs and dirt. The beauty of these bags are that you can either roll them up, press them or if you have a vacuum cleaner handy you can poke the nozzle in a partial opening of the zip to compress the bag. How fantastic is that for travelling with limited space? I know this is something I come across each year when we go on our family holiday. A car full to the brim of four people’s belongings. Being able to compress some of that will definitely be a bonus and make more room in the car. If you are away from home you can simply roll the bag up to expel the air, it couldn’t be any easier.
