Scotch Pop Up Tape – Perfect for wrapping presents

Scotch Pop Up Tape has become my new best friend this year whilst wrapping my Christmas presents.  Simple strips of sticky tape in an easy to use dispenser that easily sits across on the back of your hand via an elastic strap.

scotch tapeI found the strips easy to use and it definitely allowed me to wrap a lot faster.  Normally I’m looking around for my tape dispenser on the floor, having moved it out the way as I’m cutting paper for the next present, but this is always on the back of my hand, so always there ready to use.

scotch tape 2With short strips there was no tangling of the tape and presents got wrapped at super speed and with ease.  Definitley a help that I needed with the amount I had to wrap!

Why not give Scotch pop up tape a try?

ijustloveit.co.uk Online Gift Store – Review

I Just Love It is a wonderful online gift store, with a wide variety of gifts, many of them personalised giving them added meaning to the recipient.  They also have things that are a little bit different from the high street, meaning you can find something unique and special for birthday’s, anniversaries and Christmas etc.

I chose a selection of gifts, all for me to try out and I have to say I haven’t been disappointed!

giftsI should save the best till last but I just have to show you this amazing personalised cake tin.  I absolutely adore it, both in style and quality and it will take pride of place in my kitchen.  It is a little pricey at £42.99, but when you see it with its personalisation and feel it’s strong sturdy quality, you’ll know it’s worth having!

gifts 4The metal is really thick and strong, this tin really is made to last.  It has a handle on top of the lid to aid in opening.  What makes this tin different to others I’ve seen is the airtight seal, meaning that your cakes will stay really fresh and biscuits will stay crisp.  I love the grey colour, neutral but stylish.  The personalisation really makes this tin special though, and makes it the perfect tin to keep on show as well as the perfect storage for all my lovely baked treats.  I can’t wait to serve visitors with a treat from my tin when they come round for tea!

gifts 3This Personalised My Family Keyring is so cute with a silver charm for each child that is engraved with their name and a heart for wording of your choice, of which I chose my name.  The charms are made from a zinc alloy making them sturdy and strong.  At £12.99 I think this would make a lovely gift, I certainly would be more than happy receiving this from my children at birthdays or Christmas (obviously with another adult helping them to buy and order it).  This will be home to my house keys from now and live in my handbag,  I’m very pleased with this item.

gifts 6A girl can never be without too many make up bags, you know what it’s like, some get a bit old and need replacing, you need one for make up, one for hair bits, one for other toiletries etc.. I really like the simple but elegant style of this Beauty Parlour Wash Bag and with its neutral colours and pvc coated cotton outer, it’s practical and also a good size.  This one does seem really well made and at £14.99 is a good price for the quality and has room to hold quite a few items.  It’s sitting proudly in my bathroom at the moment, full of little bits and bobs to make it look at bit tidier but I’m also looking forward to using it when I go away.

gifts 2A small but cute gift is this Grow Me Say It With Flowers Seed Kit and priced at £3.99 is a bargain.  I love roses and hope this successfully grows and is something I can plant in the garden.  An ideal stocking filler or smaller gift if you are doing a bag of presents, then this is the perfect extra.

gifts 5I’ve been really pleased with the selection of gifts from I Just Love It and would happily shop there again.  The items are certainly different from what you’d find elsewhere and the personalisation on the some of the items is unique and makes them stand out a bit.  If you are stuck for gift ideas, then I’d definitely give here a look, the range is vast and you’re sure to find something for person you are gifting.

Wicked Uncle Online Gift Shop – Review

Wicked Uncle is an online gift retailer with a little difference.  It aims to be of help to those unsure what to buy or what is appropriate to a certain age.  It covers all ages from babies to teens so there really is something for everyone.

Rather than sitting for hours scrolling through pages of gifts, they are categorised by gender and age, don’t worry, lot’s of products are included in both boys and girls but it helps to segregate them by what is most popularly bought for the relevant category.

w1Once you have chosen you are then given a large page of gifts to look through all of which will be age appropriate for the child you are purchasing for.  There is a wide choice available from crafts to magic, stationery to gadgets and bath treats to edible items.

I had a look through and chose a couple of items I thought my children would love to see what they thought.  I chose the Melissa and Doug Rainforest Stamp Set as my two love stamping, particularly Mister B and I knew this was something he’d be happy to sit and do.  Also they love animals and there’s lot of different scenes they can create with these.

rainforestRetailing at £14.99, I thought it was great value with a total of 20 stamps, a double coloured stamp pad and pack of coloured pencils.  They also come in a wooden tray style box which is great to store craft bits on a shelf.   My two children were eager to get stamping when they saw this and I gave them each an A3 sheet of paper to get creative on.

rainforest 1They soon realised that if they put the stamp over both colours of the ink pad they could get mulitcoloured stamps which they thought was fascinating.  The stamps are all of great quality, being wooden means they look good too.  The choice of stamps in this set is really good with a mixture of animals and some foliage designs too.

rainforest 3The children really enjoyed these and I think it’s a lovely set, one that I definitely recommend for anyone who fancies a go with stampers.

We also chose something a little bit different to try out from Wicked Uncle, something practical that I knew Miss M would enjoy.  The Big Cheese Making Kit, allows you to make cheese in your own home and lots of it too!  Miss M loves cooking and I wanted to pick something that was useful and I think this was just the right thing.

cheeseAt £22.99 this wasn’t cheap and when the box arrived, it was pretty small.  Inside was a sachet of salt, sachet of Citric Acid, 2 rennet tablets, thermometer and muslin cloth.  The kit enables you to make either Ricotta or Mozzarella cheese, all you need to add is millk, a LOT of it!!  So was it worth it?

cheesexWe decided to try the Mozzarella cheese, which required 8 pints of milk per batch.  I wasn’t sure how long it would take or how easy it would be but Miss M and I set to work.  I actually found the whole process to be incredibly easy and it was more or less a case of simply heating the milk in a large pan, adding a piece of rennet tablet, salt and citric acid, then stirring continuously as the curds and whey separated.

cheeseOnce you have just the curds in a bowl, it needs microwaving to heat up at which point you need to wear gloves as the cheese needs to be stretched and kneaded until it becomes shiny which can then be broken up into balls of Mozzarella.  We made rather a lot of balls of cheese with that one batch (not surprising considering we used 8 pints of milk) but the set does contain enough bits to make upto 10 batchs of cheese of this size.  Obviously you need to add the milk each time but at £2 per batch I think it is pretty good value for the amount of cheese you get.  Also bearing in mind that part of it is the experience and fun of doing so.

cheese 2We’ve enjoyed eating the cheese in salads and on puff pastry tarts with roasted vegetables.  Obviously Mozzarella has many uses and in our next batch we are planning to make some pizzas with it.  We also want to try making some Ricotta cheese for which you use the muslin to strain the cheese, I’m thinking spinach and ricotta parcels for mains and ricotta cheesecake for dessert!  All in all I’m very happy with the cheese set, it was fantastic to try something new, a very different experience that Miss M loved helping out with and we had fun eating it!

Why not take a look at Wicked Uncle, the choice of gifts really is vast with some really different things available that you don’t normally see!

A very busy but fun Xmas & New Year!!

Wow – it feels like so long since I blogged, I took an unintended long break over the festive period due to being just so busy!!  The run up to Christmas was crazy with so much going on and so many things to do and Miss M and I both felt a little poorly during the week before.

It was so exciting to see Miss M in her first school nativity, where she chose to play a shepherd.  I was slightly annoyed though when the show started and proud Mister B couldn’t help himself and called out to his big sister upon seeing her a number of times and the mother sitting in front of me turned round and told me to leave unless he kept quiet!!

NativityMy parents arrived a few days before Xmas which was nice and gave me some time to wrap presents – how many? – I wish I had counted but my arms were aching and fingers sore by the time they were all done.  But the fireplace didn’t disappoint on Christmas morning when Santa had done his deliveries.  Miss M and Mister B were so excited and didn’t know where to begin.

We had a lovely Christmas day although I have to say by far the most exhausting for me – I don’t think I got to sit down other than to eat Christmas dinner!!

XmasAfter Christmas was over we had a few days to relax before preparing for Miss M’s birthday party on New Year’s Eve.  I cheated this year and decided to hold it at the local leisure centre with a bouncy castle and despite costing double the amount that I spent on a party last year for the same number of children I have to say I was slightly disappointed with the overall way it ran and will definitely go back to doing a party myself again next year.  I also cheated on the birthday cake!!!  The first year I haven’t made my children a homemade cake but I did make it up slightly by baking some yummy chocolate cupcakes, iced in buttercream and finished with a personalised pink M&M!!

BirthdayOn New Year’s Day my gorgeous little Miss M officially became 5 years old!!  Where have the last five years gone?  We had a lovely day, which started sunny so ventured down to the park on Miss M’s new bike and Mister B’s new scooter.  We then enjoyed a birthday lunch with family before opening birthday presents and relaxing for the rest of the day.

NYDSo although busy, we have had some lovely family times over the last few weeks and I look forward to see what 2013 brings us!!
