Oregon Scientific Smart Globe Adventure AR

Oregon Scientific Smart Globe Adventure AR is educational but fun and teaches children an amazing amount of facts about more than 220 different countries using a smart pen to guide them across the globe through learning facts and fun interactive games.  There are 5 games, 19 English challenges and 6 French language challenges.

  • HEAR – The SmartGlobe talks and speaks about lots of fun facts. Listen to the country’s national anthem, capital, or history. Over 4,000 information pieces are stored in the globe’s digital memory.
  • TOUCH – Use the SmartGlobe pen to touch all over the globe. The stand base and world globe contain digital touch points almost everywhere!
  • PLAY – Learn and have fun! Contains 25 games that will teach your children about world facts, while capturing their interest.
  • PORTABLE – Take the globe anywhere. Operates on 3 AA batteries (included) so no cords needed.
  • AUGMENTED REALITY – New for 2017! Use the Oregon Scientific SmartGlobe AR app to bring the globe to life with animals and dinosaurs!

The Smart Globe is a lovely size and brightly coloured which makes it really appealing.  With batteries included it was ready to go and my 9yr old was eager to check it out.  The base contains the controls to use for the smart pen and you have the option of games or facts.  The variety of facts are great and a fabulous way for children to find out about a particular country, either one they are interested in, doing at school, or just a new one they fancy learning about.  The facts cover everything from currency, capitals, national anthems, landscape features and interesting facts about the countries.  Miss M quickly found the games and spent a large amount of time trying to find countries and continents as per the game instructions.  Once she got the hang of where to press on the country and got more familiar with the continents, she was whizzing around and even though she struggled on some, she had so much concentration and determination to continue that she sat playing on her own for a fair amount of time.

Here’s a small clip of Miss M in action playing the countries game on the globe:

There’s an app you can download onto smartphones and tablets where you can experience 3D Augmented Reality such as landscape, animals, landmarks and dinosaurs, literally coming to life in your hand.  With so much to explore and fun to have this globe has to be a great way for kids to learn geography and one they will pick up and do on their own and be happy to learn from.

We’ve been really impressed with the Oregon Scientific Smart Globe Adventure and for the price of £59.99 think it’s well worth the money and something that will be a great boost to children of primary school age and even a little older.

Ben 10 Deluxe Power Up Figure

Ben 10 and his Omnitrix (alien watch) is a key part in the Ben 10 series and sees him transform into various different alien beings taking on their appearance and powers whilst still being a ten year old boy underneath.  The perfect way for a kid to have fun and play for the day.  Flair have launched a range of three Power up Figures fully articulated and with their own lights and sounds.  Here we check out Heatblast.

The Ben 10 figures stand at around 14cm tall and easily stand unaided with a steady balance.  Arms and legs can be moved easily for imaginative fun and play but the big feature with these figures is the little button on the top of the back which can be pressed as little or often as you want giving your alien a surging burst of energy.  The character lights up in various ways and makes a great selection of sounds.  From little blasts the more you press the button, the more it powers up creating larger and better sounds.  By holding the button down you get an instant alien blast which really adds to play value.

My just turned 7yr old enjoyed this figure and found the sounds really encouraged play and his imagination to get working.  He is often found carrying the figure around the house and imitating it’s blast off sounds.

A fun toy for Ben 10 fans and one that’s durable for lots of play but has an interactive side to add to the excitement!

Songmics Toy Storage and Bookshelves Unit

Songmics have done it again with this fabulous value for money children’s storage unit.  If you are looking for something that doesn’t cost the earth, but looks stylish and holds lots of your child’s books and boxes for toy storage then check out this multipurpose colourful unit.

The unit comes flat packed but I found it very simple to build on my own and did it fairly quickly.  It’s quite light to carry empty and does have supports to attach to the wall should you feel you want to use them.  The colourful toy storage boxes are sturdy and strong and ideal for my 6yr old’s endless little bitty toys that he loves to collect and he can remove a box when he wants and just put it back over the bars when he’s finished.

The book holder is useful and I love the way all the books face you so that the child an select a book by glancing at the front cover easily.  I try and change the books around every few weeks with others so that he constantly gets different ones to look at and choose for bedtime reading. Overall I’m thrilled with this storage idea and it has proved a hit with my boy, he loves seeing all his things and has easy access to them to play with or put back when it’s ‘tidy up’ time.

With this being such a useful, great piece, I’m giving you the chance to win one for yourself – exactly as you see in the picture below.  If you’d like to win then scroll down and fill in the gleam form to get your entries in.

The Emoji Movie Poseable Light Up Figures

The Emoji Movie Poseable Light Up Figures from Flair are just the sort of toy that Emoji Movie fans will love.  My 6yr old is emoji crazy so these are right up his street and he was thrilled at getting to try them out although a tad sad we didn’t receive Poop (I was actually quite pleased!). With three in the range, you get the choice of Gene, Jailbreak and Poop.

Surprisingly the figures are 8 inches tall, much larger than I expected and would look great on display on a bedroom shelf (the 6yr olds are currently on the mini bedside table attached to his bed as he can’t be without them – they are the ‘in thing’ for him!).  Built of plastic, they are fairly sturdy and come on a speech mark shaped base which is removable, but you do need the figure to be on it to stand them up.

The main feature with them is that if you lift their right arm, a part of them lights up.  On Gene this is his mouth and on Jailbreak it is her hair and badge on her hat.  My Mister B age 6 loves these and they make him very happy at bedtime.  Emoji themed toys seem to be the thing that kids love at the moment so I’m sure that these will prove a big hit with young fans.

Overall they aren’t so much a toy as a model that brightens up a shelf in a bedroom.  The light up feature is a little limited as you have to hold the arm to keep the light on but my little boy likes them and has fun with them each evening in the run up to bedtime.  For any Emoji fans out there I’m sure they’ll love them!

Hot Wheels Spinnerz from Bladez Toyz

Hot Wheels Spinnerz are the latest toy to be released from Bladez Toyz.  With fidget spinners being the latest schoolchild’s craze, these are sure to be a hit with girls and boys of all ages.  Also in the range are Barbie Spinnerz but my two opted to try out the Hot Wheels variety, with three different designs in each category it’s easy to collect them all!

The spinnerz come on a cardboard background and already look superior to other unbranded ones we’ve tried previously.  They feel good, look good and most importantly spin really well going around for a really long time if you get your spin right.  Being easy to spin is great for my youngest who is 6yr’s old as they just glide around on his fingers and he enjoys having fun with them.

The spin on these is fantastic and everyone can’t help but notice the Hot Wheels logo.  Just watching them is fascinating and the children like to line them up and get all of the spinnerz spinning together, even I find them interesting to watch and admire.  They also try to spin them on various fingers and thumbs challenging themselves to outdo the other one.  The spinnerz definitely get them thinking and being creative about how to use them trying all sorts of tricks out, it really is all down to your imagination!

Available now both in toy shops and from Bladez Toyz direct these are sure to be a hit with all Hot Wheels and Barbie fans alike.  Why not check them out today to be a proud owner of a cool branded fidget spinner that is built to last and others will admire!

Despicable Me 3 Minion Tom Inflatable Remote Control

Despicable Me 3 Remote Control Inflatables from  Bladez Toyz are just about the coolest remote control to be had at the moment.  Not only are they remote control, they move, they talk, they are minions and they are large inflatables making them quite a sight and a hit with anyone that sees them!

Along with the inflatable Tom is a remote control and you need 6AA batteries in total to power him along.  Tom comes on a small base and then his body inflates which my daughter did in a matter of minutes so really simple to do.  The first thing my 6yr old observed and was rather impressed with were his googles which also inflated!

The remote control is very simple to use and kept both my 6yr and 9yr old occupied.  You can move the minion remote control forward or spin it around and also listen to it chatter which my boy thought was hilarious and briliant.  We found that it did work on carpet but we also used it on a hard floor which got great results and plenty of minion action.

The children both loved controlling jail break Tom as he was simple to operate but fun with the way he spun around and his sounds.  The 6yr old loved dancing and jumping over him as he spun, whereas the 9yr liked controlling it and steering it around the house making sure it didn’t bang into anything although if it did no damage is called due to it’s inflatable nature.  With a 30m range this minion remote control allows for great play value and it looks impressive with it’s 35cm height.

Check out this video of the children taking Tom for a ride:

Hot Wires Plug & Play Electronics Set

With British Science Week upon us, John Adam’s Hot Wires Plug & Play Electronics Set is the perfect toy to generate interest in electronics and circuits for children.  Miss M age 9 was very excited to try this out as apparently has recently done a similar experiment at school with some wires and a light bulb so she was eager to get started and see what she could create.

The kit contains everything you need to make over 100 experiments along with a full colour instruction booklet that sets out each one clearly.  The connector parts are numbered for ease of use and there are many parts such as lightbulbs, speaker, finger sensor, buzzer, switch, LED lights… the list goes on to the extent that once you get the hang of it you can come up with your own creations.

Miss M didn’t waste any time and was straight in the box, creating before I even got a look in and the next thing I knew, she had an invention ready to show me – it’s that simple!

Miss M and her brother had created some sound effects and thought they were hilarious as I don’t think they were expecting to be able to make multiple sounds from what they saw in the box!  After calming them down, I managed to record this brief clip of the sounds effects in action:

Next up they decided to make a doorbell.  With it having been my birthday the day before they couldn’t believe it when they pressed the finished doorbell, and the tune was that of ‘Happy Birthday’ which none of us were expecting and it was a pleasant surprise.

Overall we absolutely love this Hot Wires set, it’s safe, it’s simple to use and the possibilities are endless.  Miss M can use it independently and create some amazing things that both children enjoy looking at and playing with.  She’s managed to expand some sets with further pieces to change the pitch of the sound that she made.  This really is good to get children thinking, learning and experimenting with electrics in a safe and educational way.

Wildlife Animals from Schleich

Schleich is always a popular brand for it’s durabiliy, quality and realistic looking creatures.  They have every type of animal you could be looking for from horses to dinosaurs, dragons to fun playsets. This week we have been looking at some of their wildlife animals in the Wildlife Starter Set.

With a zebra, lion, elephant and monkey as part of the collection I just knew my little boy would love these, particularly the monkey which has turned out to be his favourite.  He loves using these in all sorts of imaginative play, adding them in with his other toys, such as tractors, trucks and other figures for fun playing.

As you can see the animals are incredibly lifelike with lots of attention to detail.  Being realistic is great for kids because they can really see what the animals are like and talk about their features and learn to recognise different creatures.  The durability in Schleich figures is fabulous too and they will last without dulling in colour or legs breaking off.  They are without doubt the best quality figures we’ve played with.

If you are looking for animal figurines for little ones to play with then do check these out, you can’t go wrong with them and kids love them.  Here’s my little cheeky monkey with his favourite couple from the Wildlife Starter Set!

Available from Smyths Toys for £14.99.

My Fairy Garden from Interplay Toys

My Fairy Garden website is a delightful place that children can visit and get to know the fairies that live in the various Fairy Garden toys.  From Belle who comes with Fairy Garden to Lily who comes with Lilypad Gardens, they all have their own style and personality to go with their houses.

As you can see with Lilypad Gardens above, the set is lovely and child friendly, perfect for introducing children to gardening as they can grow something in the pot and play with the accessories each time they water the plant.  I just love the large saucer for this set that excess water will go into, there are little lily pads to float in the water and the drawbridge comes down for the fairy to walk across – how cute!

Each set is different and features it’s own fairy, you can find out about them all on the website as well as lots of other activities.  There are printable colouring sheets, spot the differences, ideas of things to make such as a twig ladder for the fairies to use.  There are also fun online games and quizzes.  Well worth trying out the Which Fairy are you quiz? to see which fairy you are most like.  It’s a simple multiple choice quiz which will give you the answer in minutes.

We also love the Flower Puzzle game, with 10 levels to get through.  You have to match different pairs of flowers up without crossing the path of another pair.  Both my children have sat down playing this with much fun trying to get further through the levels each time.  Why not give it a try – great for rainy day fun!

If your child loves fairies then make sure you check out the My Fairy Garden website for lots of fun, games and more!

Meet the Zomlings Series 5

The latest range of pocket size toys from Magic Box Toys are Series 5 of the Zomlings.  This pocket money range of toys seem to have mass appeal especially my little boy who was excited to check out the new range.

The range comes in various size packets, ideal for pocket money to be spent on or a as a small treat.  We recevied a selection which once opened out gave us the selection of Zomlings shown below.  The series consists of not only characters but city towers (buildings) and big zom-mobiles (vehicles). Everything is bright and colourful and attractive to children to play with.

There is a also a big town guide map which is double sided, one side lists all the characters which my little boy loved matching his figures onto and picking out others he’d like to own.  The other side consists of a play map with places to house each of the buildings and vehicle stations.

Each building has a sign saying what it is that folds out.  The door also opens so that you can put Zomlings inside and the buildings cleverly stack upon each other to save space.

My little boy loved the play map, it encouraged lots of ideas and fun and he loved moving the Zomlings around in their vehicles across it.  The vehicles have a fold up roof and then you can fit the figures inside.  There are two notches on the base of each vehicle which a figure will sit on so that they are upright.

There are many other fun packs to buy in the Zomlings range, there is so much to collect, you can create a whole Zomlings world.  Why not check them out today – I’m sure your kids will love them as much as my little boy does!
