Happy Days at Work – The Hairdresser 500 Piece Ravensburger Puzzle

The Hairdresser 500 piece puzzle from Ravensburger is part of the Happy Days at Work series with each puzzle featuring a different career.  With a retro vibe this scene at the hairdresser was fun to do and had lots of key items in to pick out as you go along to aid completion and help you achieve the finished puzzle.

I always like to start with the edges and corners although my 10yr old daughter was eager to complete this alongside me so was picking out bits she found on the inside such as the hair spray cans and the red car outside the window.  The pieces are a good size with and with a shiny upper surface they were easy to sift through and find what you needed.

I really enjoyed completing this and with 500 pieces it’s not too challenging and you feel like you are achieving pieces in place fairly quickly. It wasn’t long before my 7yr old son joined in too and the three of us eagerly worked together to find the pieces.  At first we were busy finding different parts but it soon got competitive as to who was going to put the final piece into place.  It turned out they both put one of the last two pieces in each as they had secretly hidden one piece each under their legs!!! Cheeky!  But it was great seeing their determination at completing the puzzle and we all had a lot of fun doing it.

In the Happy Days At Work series from Ravensburger there is something for everyone, so if you don’t fancy The Hairdresser, then maybe try The Teacher, The Coalman, The Farmer, The Mechanic or The Baker – these just being a small selection that is available.

UNTAMED Raptors by Fingerlings

UNTAMED Raptors are the latest toy creation from the makers of Fingerlings.  Coming in four different characters each with it’s own unique name and personality, they have snapping jaws and gripping claws.  With Stealth, Blaze, Fury and Razor we were lucky to get Blaze to try out and see what we thought of him.

Just like Fingerlings, these UNTAMED Raptor creatures simply wrap their claws around your finger, and are the perfect size for little hands which my 7yr old was delighted about.  There’s a simple on of switch on the back and with batteries included, your character is ready to play straightaway.

With a sturdy structure, the creature has moveable head, neck, mouth, eyes and tail although depending where you touch it, depends on how he reacts.  Using various strokes, taps, sounds, cradling or even hanging them upside down, they’ll roar, hiss, snore or make whatever noise they fancy but treat them with care and they’ll be your friend, be unkind and they’ll display their anger with ferocious roars!!

With an impressive 40 plus sounds achievable, we are just learning the possibilities, but my 7yr old is definitely having fun exploring how Blaze works.

Not too loud and a toy that’s portable for out and about, these are great for keeping kids entertained although of course all your friends what a go when they see them!  UNTAMED will definitely be a hit after the success of Fingerlings and one my boy is certainly interested in.

Available for £16.99, these UNTAMED Raptors are available from all leading toy retailers now and are sure to be popular with their young fans.  Which one will you choose or will you collect them all?

The Tale Of The Great Easter Bunny with Frankie Bridges & Cadbury

Frankie Bridge (former member of The Saturdays) has collaborated with Cadbury to release her debut book, a fun Easter tale perfect for little ones at this time of year.  The re-adaptation of The Tale of the Great Bunny created by Cadbury 20 years ago follows siblings Jack and Molly as they discover a series of mysterious clues and embark on an enchanting Easter Egg Hunt alongside their parents, Tom and Sarah.  It takes place within the family home but what the family don’t know, is that there is a secret, hidden rabbit-hole at the bottom of their garden… where The Easter Bunny lives.

The book is downloadable now from the Cadbury website which would make a perfect read for Easter Sunday.  My little boy has been enjoying it already and loves the concept of the Easter Bunny bringing the children all the chocolate goodies.

Cadbury’s also sponsor lots of egg hunts at National Trust sites so be sure that once you’ve downloaded the book, to do a search for your local egg hunt.  We participate in one every year and can’t wait to do one this year (just fingers crossed for a dry day!).  What I can confirm is that you always walk away with a delicious Cadbury’s chocolate treat so it’s definitely one not to miss.

Do you have any plans this Easter?  We’ll be joining a Cadbury’s hunt as well as doing our own mini hunt in the garden, then spending the rest of the day at home consuming chocolate and reading Frankie Bridges fun storybook to help bring the Easter magic alive!

Alvin & the Chipmunks 100 Piece Ravensburger Puzzle

Alvin & the Chipmunks 100 piece puzzle by Ravensburger is a great size for young children and depending on their age its one they can do by themselves.  My 7yr old is a massive Alvin fan and I set the task of him completing this by himself as I knew he was able and I think puzzles are a great stimulation for the brain and take children away from screen time.

Eager to start, I encouraged my boy to look for corners and edge pieces first, but you know what children are like.  He found bits of the drum right in the middle so decided to start there, but he was happy and completing on his own so I let him get on with it.  I checked on his progress every so often and encouraged him to keep him motivated.  He was actually really excited doing it and I had a full running commentary about Alvin and his friends and how they play in the band in the tv show……..

Before long the puzzle was complete!

Once he had finished we admired the finished puzzle.  At approximately 49x36cm its really good size and is brightly coloured to aid completion but also looks eye catching for the child to enjoy.  Alvin & The Chipmunks is well loved here and this puzzle was a hit too.  He thoroughly enjoyed doing it, loved the sense of achievement of finishing it by himself and it was a great way to spend an hour or two when at home.

We love Ravensburger puzzles, they never fail to disappoint being of good quality with easy to fit pieces.  They have a wide choice of pictures and designs to choose from so if you are looking for a new challenge then check them out – kids love them!

Personalised Tablet Case Review

My Personalised Case have a wide range of covers for your phones and tablets with the bonus of them being personalised and customised in what ever way you choose.  From colours to text and even photos there really is something for everyone.  They even have a great choice of styles of cover from hard cases, wrap around or smart covers so if you want to make your own phone case then this is the place to go.

With an iPad in our household in much need of a new cover I opted to try out one of the smart covers with it personalised using a photo of my beloved children.  I’ve not had any experience with a smart cover before so was intrigued to see what they were like.  Firstly I had to place my order through the website which I have to say was extremely simple and user friendly and although I could have customised the case in various ways I chose to simply just add a photograph.  It was easy to upload and then I could size it as I felt best to fit the cover.  Delivery was quick and efficient and arrived in just a few days.

Firstly I needed to attach the new cover to the iPad which is done by a magnetic hinge on the side of the cover.  I was really impressed with how well this gripped onto the tablet and just sat in place perfectly.  It really did fit like a glove!!

Next was to check out the various opening options, so apart from the obvious folding the whole cover open as a whole, you can fold the cover along the indented lines and create either a slightly slanted screen for working on or a more upright screen to use when viewing something.  Both of these hold really well and sit at great angles appropriate to what you are using it for.

Overall I’m impressed with the cover from My Personalised Case in both the quality of the product, the quality of the personalised image and the fit to the tablet.  These cases are a great way to protect your technology and can also be used as gift idea. So whether it’s a personalised phone case or something for your tablet then, why not check out the website and find the right cover for you!

Kersplatt! – The Fun Family Board Game

Kersplatt! is a fun new game release from Paul Lamond Games and one that has been thoroughly enjoyed here with the exciting aspect of splatting other players dough pieces!  The game consists of a brightly coloured playing board, a deck of cards and four coloured pots of dough.  Requiring 2-4 players and a suggested age of 6+, my two children aged 7 and 10 were keen to play along with mummy and daddy and see if they could splat our pieces and win.

The board for Kersplatt! is well made and folds into quarters for storing in the box.   Each player needs to choose a colour, red, blue, yellow or green and the idea is to make yourself some dough characters and move these around the board without being splatted.  Once you get two onto your home space you are declared the winner. To play you take turns in turning a card over and this determines your move to a space of either the colour or number you turn over.  Or you may turn a card that allows you to Kersplatt! another persons playing piece.  The kids loved this element of the game and thought it was hilarious splatting another player on the board.  All of the squashed pieces remain on the board and those squares are out of action which means it makes it quicker to get your pieces around to the home spaces as the game goes on.

With two kids ready to play, we got started.  With four of us playing it made it fun and competitive and was actually a game we all really enjoyed and would happily play again (well we already have a few times!).  The kids thought it was great to create your own pieces and we ended up with some fancy creations that they were sad to see get Kersplatted! but that’s the nature of the game.  A great family friendly game that is simple to play but fun and keeps kids entertained on rainy days, evenings or just when you are looking for something exciting to play!

Stretch Vac Man and Stretch XRay

If you’ve heard of the Original Stretch Armstrong then get ready to meet his arch enemies, Stretch Vac Man and Stretch XRay from Character Toys.  These also come in smaller 7 inch sizes which actually makes them more child friendly in terms of holding, carrying and stretching them.

The figures are both very soft and stretchy and you can literally stretch them in any way you want to.  They simply just pop back to their original shape when you let them go.

Vac Man has a unique quality in that he has a valve on the top of his head that you can pump up and down to remove all of the air out of him, leaving him with a lumpy texture that is poseable and stays that way until you press the valve to fill him up with air again.

He can be stretched either whilst pumped up or pumped down so there are multiple ways to try playing with the Vac Man.

My children found XRay Man to be exceptionally squidgy and stretchy and loved pulling him apart to get a closer glimpse of his insides.

It is even possible to tie his legs up although I had to be quick with the photos because he soon reverts to his normal self.

My kids found the new 7 inch Stretch characters great fun and it gave them a laugh as well as entertaining them for a while.  They are easy to carry around and I often find them sitting on the sofa giving one of the figures a stretch or working together to see how far they can stretch a set of arms or legs.

If you are looking for a toy that provides a bit of fun and entertainment then do check out the Stretch characters and don’t forget to follow along on the Stretch Armstrong PopJam channel or on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

Mine It Diamond & Gold from Character Toys

Mine It is the latest craze from Character Toys that kids will love.  Available in either a block of gold or diamond shape, the substance requires chipping away using the included tools, a shovel, mallet and also a magnifying glass to help search for your gems.  It’s a fun and novel way at doing a bit of mini archaeology play that keeps kids entertained and excited about finding a precious gem.

Each Mine It set contains a 1 in 24 chance of finding either a real piece of gold or a real diamond.  If you don’t find one of these then you will find another type of rock or gem such as Red Onyx, Picture Jasper, Black Line Jasper, Tiger Eye, Volcano Rock or Rose Crystal.

My two children were quite excited at the idea of these and couldn’t wait to get started.  They found it fun bashing away at the sand like substance and couldn’t wait to get a peek of what they would find inside. My 7yr old particularly liked peering through his magnifying glass from time to time to see if he could spy a glimpse of his precious stone.

They both really enjoyed this activity and it kept them going for a fair while without being too quick or equally not too long that they got bored and gave up.  As you can see below they both ended up with a lump of Volcano rock from their Mine It sets and although would have liked to find the diamond or gold, were quite happy with their discoveries.

To see Mine It in action and a bit more about how the children found it then do check out this video below which shows them both engaging in this activity.  I think you can see from their expressions that they are both happy, excited and thoroughly enjoying themselves throughout!

Superdrug Some Body Range of Protein Snacks

Superdrug have launched a new range of Some Body healthy snacks and shakes filled with protein and optimised to be part of a healthy lifestyle.  The range is quite extensive and different to any other similar style brands I’ve seen with some interesting and unique products.  As well as protein powder to make shakes and protein packed snack bars you can find detox tea, flavoured waters, pancake mix and popcorn!

With the start of 2018 initiating a lot of New Year New You thoughts for people the Some Body range has hit the shelves at the right time and fits well into my current lifestyle of trying to eat healthier, get fitter and feel better before the Summer months come along.

New research from Superdrug has revealed that for 6 out of 10 Brits a simple compliment in January is the way to stay motivated with New Year goals, with 88% believing more compliments need to be given in January than any other month to encourage, inspire and motivate during the bleak cold winter.  I definitely agree with this and certainly think a comment brightens someones day!

Dr Becky Spelman, Registered Practitioner Psychologist & member of BABCP backs the findings, saying, “When it comes to getting fit, losing weight, or focusing on our health, positive acknowledgement is very useful. Hearing that we are looking good from people, and that the time and effort we have invested in our health are bearing fruit, actually spurs us on to do even more.”

So onto the products, first up I’ve been trying this Some Body Banana Protein Powder to make up a shake for my breakfast each morning.  I find that when I get up it’s too early to eat and I don’t really have time to sit down and consume a bowl of cereal so this is an ideal way for me to get my morning energy boost and keep me going throughout the first part of the day – it also helps prevent me from snacking on things I shouldn’t be!

glass full of frothy banana protein shake

What I love about it is that not only is it quick and simple to make but you can use either water or milk to add to the powder.  A quick shake up of the ingredients and you have a truly nutritious and filling shake to drink!

I always find snack bars handy to have with me when out and about or if you get that afternoon slump at work and the Some Body Natural Protein Salted Fudge Bar is perfect for that.  Being 100% natural in it’s ingredients, it tastes moist and delicious and certainly fills a little hole in a better way than a chocolate bar would.

Some Body Sweet & Salt Popcorn is a great idea for grazing on during the day or ideal to perk up your Saturday night with.  It tastes utterly delicious with a light but crisp texture, the mix of salt and sweet is just perfect and quite frankly I could eat a bag of this every day – really impressed with the flavour and at just 116 calories for the bag  – who could say no?

The product I was most intrigued to try was the Some Body Protein Pancake Mix.  With 4 pre portioned sachets that just require mixing with water before cooking what could be simpler? I made two mid sized pancakes with a sachet and before they had even cooked I knew from the smell I couldn’t wait to try them.  Even though they are plain they have a rich thick mixture with a sweet taste and along with a bit of fruit are the perfect snack to fill you up with their added protein and give you that burst of energy that’s sometimes needed.

Overall I have to say I’ve been really impressed with the Some Body range from Superdrug.  It looks quite simplistic but actually they’ve developed some really tasty products that fill you up and are satisfying to eat.  I’ll definitely be visiting the Some Body shelves in Superdrug next time I pass by to stock up on some of these healthy goodies to incorporate into my attempt at a healthier, cleaner eating lifestyle!

SuperZings Collectibles – Hero vs Villain in Kaboom City

SuperZings if you haven’t already heard about them yet, are the latest collectibles to hit UK stores from Magicbox Toys  and consist of 80 multi-coloured figures, each being either a hero or villain that live in Kaboom City.  The unique thing about these collectibles are that each of the characters form half of a pair, so each hero has a partnered villain. So for example ‘Tangle Boy’ a ball of wool pairs with ‘Mad Blades’ a pair of scissors.

There’s a variety of ways to buy Superzings from little 80p blind bags, to larger ones with Hideouts (the Superzings place to live or hide), packs of Supercars and then larger blister packs and a starter pack with a comic that didn’t fail to disappoint my little boy who has read it front to back at least twice a day!!

Aimed at ages 4-8 years the Superzings have totally captured my 7yr old’s attention and he is just loving playing with the start of his collection.  With different coloured hideouts including shiny ones along with rare characters – 6 silver, 2 gold and 1 super rare Enigma, there is plenty of variety and lots of pieces to collect.

With two silver Superzings (both a hero and matching villain) found so far, my little boy uses them as leaders of the groups for the others.  Metal Crunch ruling the goodies and Darknetic leader of the baddies.

To aid play and boost their imaginations, Superzings includes various accessories, the supercars which have a little notch to sit the characters on, the hideouts, superblasters with super discs, and there is a large supertrap which we don’t have but my little boy is planning on purchasing this weekend to trap all of the baddies in when he plays out his little games with the Superzings

Available now Superzings are sold at The Entertainer, Tesco, Asda, Co-op, Spar and many more so keep your eyes peeled for these ideal pocket money toys!
