NEW Malt Loaf Bars from Soreen

Soreen is a household name for the traditional malt loaf snack but with ever busy family lifestyles and the volume of individully wrapped ‘on the go’ snacks appearing on the market, Soreen have upped their game in recent years with seasonal flavours, small individually wrapped lunchbox loaves for kids and now the NEW Malt Loaf Bars aimed at all ages but a great size for adults as a snack at home or on the go.

With an aim to support active lifestyles Soreen have created the perfect NEW Malt Loaf Bars with the deliciously unique taste that we all love about Soreen malt loaf in a convenient, individually wrapped format.  These are just perfect for me and a great addition to the range on top of the already existing lunchbox loaves which are the ideal snack for kids.  The Malt Loaf Bars are a larger size to the lunchbox loaves making them great for adults although my children insisted on trying one and will make a filling snack for them.

These have lived in my handbag this week and been my perfect break time snack at work although I’ll also be using them for out and about snacks.  Why I love them?  Well firstly I’ve always been a fan of malt loaf, secondly they are so easy to grab and pack in your bag being individually wrapped and thirdly I absolutely love the crust edge of malt loaf and with the individual bar you get a piece of that in every bite along with the squidgy tasty insides.

Soreen for me will always be a winner, the kids love the flavoured lunchbox loaves, at home we all love the larger loaves that we slice and butter and these New Malt Loaf Bars are a hit with all the family and will be in my handbag, the husbands lunchbox and can be used for the kids when out on long days out to keep them filled up between mealtimes.  If you haven’t tried the NEW Soreen Malt Loaf Bar’s yet, check them out now, available from The Co-op and WHSmith Travel Stores!

Joan Collins Timeless Beauty & Make Up

Joan Collins Timeless Beauty is a new international luxury beauty brand consisting of skin care and beauty products and I’ve been lucky to try some of the glamorous base products recommended by Dame Joan Collins herself.  With her own personal industry experience she has been able to collaborate on products that give sought after looks normally provided by top make up artists.

With anti ageing properties the products are just what I’m looking for as being in my early 40’s I’m definitely seeing the signs of ageing and fine lines creeping in!  The Joan Collins range consists of both skin care and make up and all come styled in glamourous glass and gold packaging, the sort you’d expect to find on the dressing table of a Hollywood starlet. With the high-end bottles it was time to check out the contents and put the make up to the test.  Having fair skin I went for the ‘Warm Extra Fair’ foundation and ‘Fair’ concealer.  A sample of the Sleep Active Night Cream was also included for me to put to the test.

The Joan Collins Fade to Perfect concealer (£18) comes generously sized with an easy to use wand to apply to the eye area, around the nose and anywhere else you need a bit of cover.  It blends easily and helps reduce dark circles and puffiness.  As you can see I have a dark area under each eye and I found that this covered it perfectly leaving my under eye area flawless and perfectly blended.

The Joan Collins First Base foundation (£25) comes in an easy to pump bottle which I always like as you can dispense straight onto your brush, blender or fingers. This smoothed easily over my skin giving a good medium coverage, enough for me and gives my skin a good even tone.  Hyaluronic acid is a great plumping ingredient and is used in this to help fill in fine lines and wrinkles, definitely a plus for me as I hate the lines on my forehead and between my brows.  The foundation has a soft velvety texture which helps to blur imperfections but leaves you with a radiant look.

At the end of the day I always remove my make up and carefully wash my face to help protect my skin.  It’s then important to apply a moisturiser that can work at night to repair and revive the skin and Joan Collins has come up with a great solution for the over 30’s.  At 42 this is very welcome and I couldn’t wait to give it a try. Sleep Active Night Cream (£40) works to energise cellular activity and revive the skin, helping lift and reduce the signs of fatigue and advancing age so the face looks fresher, brighter, more alive and younger. With 28 active ingredients including 7 anti-oxidants, 10 anti-ageing, 11 moisturisers, albizia, julibrissen (persian silk tree bark) extract, ectoin, avocado butter, jojoba oil I have to say this felt like heaven on my skin at the end of the day.  Light, refreshing, reviving, moisturising it just felt bliss and certainly was a great help to soothe and renew my skin overnight.

Overall I’m thoroughly impressed with the Joan Collins Timeless Beauty brand and would definitely recommend giving it a try particularly if you are 30+.  It looks glamourous, feels glamourous but is mid priced so accessible to many especially as it can be picked up at your local M&S store as well as being sold at various places online!

no!no! Thermicon Micro Home Hair Removal System

no!no! Thermicon Micro Home Hair Removal System is a painless gadget that removes hair by transmitting heat to the hair and down to the follicle to gently and effectively remove unwanted hair.  This can be used on all areas of the body minus the sensitive parts so I was keen to give it a try and see how it worked.

The no!no! device comes with several accessories, two heads a small and a larger one dependent on the area you are removing hair from .  There is also a cleaning brush, buffer and pretty storage bag.  It is rechargeable so a charging cable is included.

Once charged it’s ready to go and you can literally just turn it on and start.  The first thing I noticed was how small the no!no! is, much lighter and smaller in size than I expected but that makes it easier to hold, easier to store away and easier to use as you don’t get a tired arm after a while.  All that is required is to press down on the skin and swipe in one direction only and the heat will burn away the hair.  You may need to go over hairs several times especially at first and I found with thicker darker hair I had to go quite a few times before the hair came off.  It also takes a little bit of practice to get the pressure and speed right but I soon got there after a little practice and you know when it’s correctly working as you get a solid blue light whilst swiping across your body.

After using you need to buff the area to remove any hard bits of burnt hair left on the skin and then you are left with soft hairless areas.  I must also mention the burning smell you get with the hair removal but once you get used to this it’s fine and it’s easy to just get on with the hair removal job in question.

I found this really simple to use once I got to grips with it but it was slow to remove the hair at first although this does speed up the more you use it as the hair gets thinner and finer.  What I’m keen to see is the results further down the line, as claims are that you will be almost hair free with just top ups required as and when.

I’m keen to persist with the no!no! to see how much decrease in hair I get but so far I’m finding it simple to use and totally painless – I haven’t felt a thing, just the burning hair smell!  So far I’m happy with it’s performance and love the little storage pouch to keep all the bits together.  Due to it’s size it makes it very portable so you can even take it away with you.  Why not check it out for yourself?

Arthur Price Despicable Me Minions Cutlery & Bone China

Arthur Price known for it’s quality cutlery, tableware and gifts for over 100 years have just launched a Despicable Me range for children.  With a choice of two cutlery sets and some bone china tableware, there really is something for every little minion fan in your household.

There are two cutlery collections available, Sea of Minions and Expressions. which is the one we received below.  Both are made to a high standard of 18/10 finest stainless steel and have a 15 year guarantee although I’m sure they’ll last beyond that having grown up in a household that uses Arthur Price cutlery and the same set is used each and every time I visit my parents many years later!   Each set consists of a knife, fork, dessert spoon and teaspoon which are all highly polished with a slogan and image on the handle.  My six year old’s eyes lit up when he caught sight of these (he’s minion obsessed) and couldn’t wait to check them out at dinnertime.   As the cutlery comes in a presentation box they’d make an ideal and fantastic gift for any young person.  The size of this cutlery is aimed at approximately 4-10 year olds.

The bone china Despicable Me collection from Arthur Price comprises of a mug, plate and bowl which can either be purchased separately or as a two or three piece set.  This features the Sea of Minions design and is bright and fun to look at and the pieces are a lovely size for younger ones to use.  The bowl is generous meaning it’s suitable for desserts, cereal or main meals such as pasta, and the mug is a perfect child size as I find any larger and it’s too much for them to drink.

The whole Despicable Me table setting looks charming, modern and you can see it is of a high quality with it’s well made pieces.  It’s incredibly inviting to children and definitely something that will encourage them to sit at the table and use to eat with.

So there was only one thing left – time to test them out.  Well to say my 6 year old was delighted with his new cutlery and tableware is an understatement.  Out of all the characters he has encountered in his six years, minions have definitely had the biggest impact and become his greatest passion so to be able to eat off minion covered tableware using minion cutlery is an absolute pleasure for him.  For me, knowing it is all of a high quality means that it will last for many years to come and will keep my little boy happy for as long as he’s interested in using it.

Overall I’m thrilled with the new Despicable Me range from Arthur Price.  It exudes the Arthur Price quality I’ve grown up with and I’m pleased to see my children using something that both they and I admire and appreciate.  If you have or know of any minion fans then this is well worth checking out as a really lovely gift for them, one that’s durable, of high quality,  will last and be used daily – you can’t get better than that!

Foraging for fruit with Robinsons Fruit Shoot

Robinsons Fruit Shoot has long been a favourite of my children’s for picnics, days out and treats so we were pleased to take Fruit Shoot up on their foraging challenge which incorporated foraging to find our own fruit and then inventing our own new Fruit Shoot flavour.

Armed with a hamper of goodies to get us going we started by looking through the ‘Food for Free’ book to get an idea of what to look for along with reading the hints and tips list created by expert Fergus Drennan to ensure we followed safety and a guide to common things that can be at this time of year.

We headed outside and the children were happy to spot some apple trees and wild blackberries.  Unfortunately most of the blackberries were yet to ripen but we did manage to get a couple which we took home to wash and eat.  I let the children enjoy them and apparently they were very juicy and delicious!  We are going to try some of the apples cooked in a tart to see what they are like but the children loved the idea that we had picked our own fruit and could actually eat it.  We also want to collect some more blackberries once they have ripened to try and make some mini ice lollies with the moulds from our hamper.

Obviously we needed some refreshment after all that foraging so Robinsons Fruit Shoot in Summer Fruits flavour proved a popular choice and was the perfect refreshment for a day outdoors.

With our foraging trip over and feeling greatly inspired by our findings it was time to head home to invent our own Fruit Shoot flavour.

The children sat quietly engrossed in their new Fruit Shoot designs, I was really impressed with their finished pictures.  The 9yr old Miss M came up with an Apple & Strawberry flavour and 6yr old Mister B fancied Blueberry & Orange.

I think they did really well and loved exploring what fruit can be found outdoors.  It just goes to show that fruit can be fun and a little imagination can go a long way.  We thoroughly enjoyed our Fruit Shoot adventure and look forward to enjoying a lot more foraging trips in the future!

Aimed at ages 4-9yrs, both my children were keen to get stuck in and do the activities.  They loved the characters that they recognised and each page they turned gave out sounds of joy, or “look who it is” and “I want to do this puzzle”.  Some of the characters are part of collectible series which are really popular at the moment and seem to appeal to children of these ages.

With the magazine packed back to back with popular and recognisable characters, the children were kept occupied and became excited to turn the pages and see who was on the next page.  Mixit magazine is fun, up to date and full of things children love and want to see.  With familiar faces on every page it’s sure to be a hit with everyone that reads it so check it out in shops now!

Hot Wheels Spinnerz from Bladez Toyz

Hot Wheels Spinnerz are the latest toy to be released from Bladez Toyz.  With fidget spinners being the latest schoolchild’s craze, these are sure to be a hit with girls and boys of all ages.  Also in the range are Barbie Spinnerz but my two opted to try out the Hot Wheels variety, with three different designs in each category it’s easy to collect them all!

The spinnerz come on a cardboard background and already look superior to other unbranded ones we’ve tried previously.  They feel good, look good and most importantly spin really well going around for a really long time if you get your spin right.  Being easy to spin is great for my youngest who is 6yr’s old as they just glide around on his fingers and he enjoys having fun with them.

The spin on these is fantastic and everyone can’t help but notice the Hot Wheels logo.  Just watching them is fascinating and the children like to line them up and get all of the spinnerz spinning together, even I find them interesting to watch and admire.  They also try to spin them on various fingers and thumbs challenging themselves to outdo the other one.  The spinnerz definitely get them thinking and being creative about how to use them trying all sorts of tricks out, it really is all down to your imagination!

Available now both in toy shops and from Bladez Toyz direct these are sure to be a hit with all Hot Wheels and Barbie fans alike.  Why not check them out today to be a proud owner of a cool branded fidget spinner that is built to last and others will admire!

Despicable Me 3 Minion Tom Inflatable Remote Control

Despicable Me 3 Remote Control Inflatables from  Bladez Toyz are just about the coolest remote control to be had at the moment.  Not only are they remote control, they move, they talk, they are minions and they are large inflatables making them quite a sight and a hit with anyone that sees them!

Along with the inflatable Tom is a remote control and you need 6AA batteries in total to power him along.  Tom comes on a small base and then his body inflates which my daughter did in a matter of minutes so really simple to do.  The first thing my 6yr old observed and was rather impressed with were his googles which also inflated!

The remote control is very simple to use and kept both my 6yr and 9yr old occupied.  You can move the minion remote control forward or spin it around and also listen to it chatter which my boy thought was hilarious and briliant.  We found that it did work on carpet but we also used it on a hard floor which got great results and plenty of minion action.

The children both loved controlling jail break Tom as he was simple to operate but fun with the way he spun around and his sounds.  The 6yr old loved dancing and jumping over him as he spun, whereas the 9yr liked controlling it and steering it around the house making sure it didn’t bang into anything although if it did no damage is called due to it’s inflatable nature.  With a 30m range this minion remote control allows for great play value and it looks impressive with it’s 35cm height.

Check out this video of the children taking Tom for a ride:

Child Friendly Products from Lush

Lush is the home of bath bombs and a multitude of other cruelty free products and always the place to visit for a bath time treat although equally great for body care, skin care and even makeup but have you thought about grabbing a few goodies for your children?  I know my daughter has tried a few bath bombs and soaps out but my little boy was new to the Lush experience.  We were excited to be invited to a Mother and Child event at our local store, Lush Plymouth, to check out some of their top ideas for kids.

After a warm welcome by all the staff and a round of introductions it was time to get hands on.  The children were all super excited to actually get the chance to make their own bath bomb from scratch – how cool is that? (although I must admit I’ve made a Big Blue before myself).  The super cute ‘Ickle Baby Bot’ is packed full of lavender, perfect to relax children before bedtime.  Suitable for babies over six months, it’s aromatherapy oils also work to soothe irritable skin as well as calm and relax.  The children started using their hands to mix the ingredients in a big bowl before individually packing the mixture into robot shaped moulds as tightly as they could whilst we watched on and learnt about the process.

The robot needs to be left in the mould for a minimum of 24hrs before taking out to ensure it is dried out enough and solid making the perfect bath bomb.  The children were really excited with their creations and it was definitely an experience that they loved, remembered and talk about.  I also think it’s really nice for them to see how Lush products are made first hand and realise how natural they are with minimal ingredients.

A few days after the event the children had a bath with their own hand-made Ickle Baby Bot bath bombs.  They smelt gorgeous, I’ve always been a fan of lavender and it’s the perfect scent for a relaxing bath time.

Having a bath bomb meant they had an extra long time in the bath tub and their skin was lovely and aromatic at the end which meant they got extra cuddles before drifting off into a heavenly sleep!

Fun was the next item on the agenda and oh my – this really is a fun product – modelling clay that doubles as a bath/shower/soap product!  How can that not be appealing to kids?  Whilst the children played and created random aliens, the adults learnt of the joys of this product.  Versatile is an understatement – you can mould, play, roll, cut, design, but then run it under water and you have bubble bath, shower gel or soap to make you clean and fresh.  Double the fun in one product!

Next we checked out some of the honey products, one of which was the Honey I Washed The Kids soap, a delectable caramel smelling soap with a rich creamy lather.  Both the children and I love using this in the bath and a chunk actually lasts a good while.  Also containing honey is the It’s Raining Men shower gel which has a creamy consistency and sweet smell suitable for all the family.

Shampoo bars aren’t something I’ve tried before but after seeing them being demonstrated they look really simple to lather and creamy enough that I would consider using them on my hair. We had a look at a few including the Honey I Washed My Hair and Trichomania which both smell good and look really inviting to use to clean my hair.

Shower Jelly was next on the agenda and has proved a huge hit with my children over the last couple of weeks.  The boy chose Refresher, the girl Whoosh (their favourite colours of course!) and they couldn’t wait to give them a try at home.  In the shower I tip these into the palm of their hands and they have a wobble of them before lathering them up over their body.  The bathroom smells good too when they are using these and it’s certainly given them motivation to wash!

On to body products and along with the ever popular Dream Cream we were shown Sleepy, a body lotion perfect for using at night time as it’s enriched with lavender and cocoa butter.  It’s a really pretty pale lilac colour and comes with a sprinkling of silver on the top!  I really like this and find it the perfect lotion to use after bath time on either me or the children.  Therapy is a massage bar made with a blend of cocoa and shea butter along with sweet orange, neroli and lavender oils.  It melts at body temperature so you just rub it up and down your body to spread the sweet smelling product around leaving your skin super soft.  Finally onto Powdered Sunshine, such a unique and clever product.  Sun protection in a powdered format, you just sprinkle it on, spread it around and you are sun ready, great for things like scalps or places you don’t like putting lots of sticky lotion.  I know for me it’ll be ideal for putting behind kids ears and around the back of their necks.

The array of bath bombs adorning the shelves in Lush are always something I love to look along and admire and the children were no different, fascinated at all the different shapes and colours.  They were lucky to bring home a Yellow Submarine bomb which has a lemon fragrance.  It has the most amazing fizz in the bath filling it with yellow followed by a trail of pink which merges to make the most gorgeous Summery coloured bath tub.

All in all we had an amazing experience at Lush Plymouth with a friendly, knowledgeable bunch of staff who did their utmost to tell us about the products while keeping the children occupied throughout letting them try, smell and experience the products first hand.  There certainly are many products that are ideal for kids and families to use.  The children always talk about Lush now and tell other people about it so they are definitely helping to spread the word about the amazing products Lush has to offer!

Leighton Denny Nails Rock Solid Base Coat

Leighton Denny has been in the nail industry for over 20 years winning many awards so when he brought his own brand out just over 12 years ago, it was one that was highly coveted by those in the know.  Available from selected salons, spas and high street store M&S, it’s accessible to all or of course you can just order online.

With four base coats in the range I was happy to try one out as being a regular wearer of nail polish everyday it’s important to care for my nails underneath.  Also I have natural nails which I like to grow long, but with two young children, DIY and housework etc I need something to protect them and keep them strong.

The four base coats available are:

  • Rock Solid
  • Undercover Base Coat
  • Time Repair Nail Elixir
  • Bare It All

I tried out Rock Solid which was a pleasure to use and just glided onto the nails and dried quickly.  You can use it under colour or on it’s own and build it up with a layer daily to protect nails.  I’ve tried it out both ways over the last couple of weeks and definitely feel that my nails are stronger and certainly haven’t had any breakages during that time.

I also tried the Leighton Denny colour ‘I love Juicy’ which is a bright Summery colour, it definitely has a happy feel to it and I love the application of the polish too.  Quick drying and really glossy the base coat and colour ogether make a great combination.  I have to say that over the week I had the colour on it didn’t chip at all.  By the end of the week it was wearing away at the ends which I’d expect with all the housework and gardening but overall it was a really lasting durable colour.

This is my first time trying out Leighton Denny nail care and I’m really impressed – Great application, great durability and glossy results.  My nails feel stronger, longer and are a great length right now.  I must also mention the mini glass nail file as it is fabulous, you can buy the full size one from Leighton Denny which I’d highly recommend as it files so gently, leaving nail edges smooth and exactly how you want them.  Also it will last for years so no need to buy replacements.  Head over to Leighton Denny now or check out the brand in your nearest M&S store!
