Ultradex Dental Hygiene Products – Review

Ultradex have a range of high quality oral hygiene products to give leave your mouth feeling confidently fresh and odour free for the day ahead.  With everything from toothpastes to mouthwash, dental tape to fresh breath spray, I’ve been trying out a selection of their products to see what I thought.

WP_20151023_15_07_29_ProI found the mint fragrance of the products to be quite mild but pleasant to use and still leave your mouth feeling really clean and fresh.

The Daily Oral Rinse mouthwash actually comes unfragranced with a sachet of Peppermint flavour which you can add and shake up into the bottle should you wish to make it a minty fragrance. This mouthwash also promises to eliminate bad breath, restore natural whiteness and protect teeth and gums.

The Recalifying and Whitening rinse has all the above features but with SensiShield Advanced Technology which recalcifies tooth surfaces to leave them smoother, brighter and less likely to stain.

The toothpastes come in Low Abrasion and Recalcifying & Whitening versions, both of which are pleasant to use and leave your mouth feeling clean and cared for.

Other products from Ultradex include Anti bacterial Interdental Tape which comes in a really handy little dispenser (easier to use than other brands) and works well.  I regularly use dental floss and find brands do vary and have to try various ones that work for me.  This did a good job and fitted well between my teeth.  There are also Interdental Brushes available and a Fresh Breath Spray which is ideal for carrying in your handbag to use are a garlicy meal out!

Overall a great range of Ultradex products that seem to do a good job and that I would continue using to maintain good oral hygiene!

Miffy TV comes to Tiny Pop + Win a Miffy Sensory Toy

Miffy is an absolute classic in this house, a character I’ve loved as long as I remember, and one that my children haved loved from birth with their cudldy Miffy’s, Miffy blankets and such like.

We’ve had a Miffy dvd for the last few years that we watch regularly, but how excited were we to discover a new series of Miffy on one of my children’s favourite tv channels – Tiny POP!  On at 7pm each evening you can catch two episodes of Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small.

Miffy on Tiny PopLast night we watched an episode about Miffy playing hide and seek with her dog friend Snuffy.  It was a really cute episode and what we like about the programmes are that they are easy to watch, simple to understand and really fun viewing.  Accompanied by music the programmes are a pleasure which even I enjoy.  With simplistic illlustrations it’s easy to catch up with what’s going on and both my children aged 5 and 7 are glued to it. My children tend to bath, come down in their pyjamas and watch Miffy with a hot chocolate before heading back up to bed for a story and sleep.

As well as the TV series, there are endless number of Miffy items available, all of which look so cute and appealing, including this fabulous sensory Miffy.

Sensory Miffy (4)I have one of these sensory Miffy toys suitable from 6 months+,  to giveaway to one lucky reader!

Happy 5th Birthday Mister B

Ten days ago the handsome Mister B became a 5yr old!  It doesn’t seem possible, the years have whizzed by, but he is still as cute and cuddly as ever, although I’m sure that will change in future years!

His birthday fell on a school day, but he was more than happy with that as it meant he could choose something out of the present box and everyone would sing two songs to him.  He was also insistent on wearing a birthday badge to school as he was a little worried that the teacher wouldn’t know it was his birthday and he’d miss out on that much talked about birthday box.

WP_20151016_08_33_49_ProAfter school I picked up a very happy 5yr old, who couldn’t wait to tell me all about his day, but also eager to get home to see if he had any presents (he only got cards in the morning!).

Fortunately in the lounge lay await a bundle of presents which we opened whilst having his choice of birthday tea (pasta, ham, cut up cocktail sausages and grated cheese) followed by a star wars birthday cake.

WP_20151016_15_05_06_ProHe was a very happy boy with his newly aquired minions winter hat and gloves, along with minion top, minion goggles, minion balloon amongst other things.

InstagramCapture_d1d61cf0-2234-4dc6-9eb4-d085c0c3ab98We delayed his party by a week to allow for his cousins to come down for a few days so this weekend it’s been Mister B’s birthday all over again with a party at our local soft play centre.  He was a very lucky boy and received some really lovely presents from his school friends which we have had fun playing with over the last few days, a favourite being a tube of slime full of monsters – ewww!, a remote control car and a superheroes playdoh set!

InstagramCapture_988901c4-0bdf-4af9-9989-7194e28c363fIt’s been a fabulous week, enjoying watching my little 4yr old become 5.  He has made me so proud, doing really well in his first term at school and constantly being a little joker, he always makes everyone laugh with his silly dances, funny jokes and quick witted comments.

He dressed himself yesterday in his new birthday cap, t-shirt and socks which did make me smile when came downstairs – he’s such a cute little character full of energy and always with a cheeky grin on his face! (well.. most of the time)

Actimel For Kids Yoga Challenge

Actimel bottles of yoghurt drink are a firm favourite with my two children, they love the taste, they love drinking out of the little bottles and they love the characters on the bottles so when we were asked to join in with the Actimel Kids Yoga Challenge I knew they’d be up for it.

actimelThe challenge provided us with a booklet of ten yoga poses of which it suggests getting the children to do two each morning to wake them up and get them feeling ready for the day ahead.  Both my children were eager to do the yoga poses and tended to do more than two each morning as when they saw each other doing one, the other had to copy!

They did make me laugh trying out the moves, but they had a good go and really enjoyed themselves.  Yoga is very calming and helps to improve focus and concentration which is just what a child needs ahead of a day at school.

Here are my two demonstrating the Crescent Moon, Downward Dog, Aeroplane and Tree poses:

actimel 2After all their hard work each morning, they were rewarded with one of their favourite Actimel drinks.  They come in various fruity flavours although we love the strawberry ones. As well as yoghurt each drink is packed with billions of L.casei live cultures, fruit puree, calcium, vitamin D and protein.  They are great for pack lunches too, and I often include them in their school bag as a lunchtime treat.

actimel 3Why not get your kids in on the challenge and try out a couple of yoga poses each morning to get them feeling ready for the school day ahead?

We were sent some goodies/vouchers in exchange for sharing our yoga challenge with you.

A Sparkly Christmas at Lush

Christmas at Lush is a sparkly, glittery and seasonally fragrant affair that will leave you feeling all festive with all the products and gifts they have on offer.  I had a preview on the launch day of the new Christmas and Halloween ranges as they were fresh into my local store in Plymouth, to see what amazing new products have launched and which firm favourites have returned from previous years for another festive season.

lushWe were greeted with drinks and some fabulous cupcakes from the local Mrs Brown’s bakery which looked too good to eat and very festively decorated!

lush 3Then it was on to the bath section, packed full of glorious bath bombs, melts and bubble bars.  We had some demonstrations of bath bombs in action but here are some that caught my eye.

The Magic of Christmas reusable bubble bar is so festive, a star shape decorated with cloves and star anise, it’s perched on a cinnamon stick.  It’s burnt orange colour gives a warming feeling as the chilly evenings draw in and it’s covered in golden glitter, perfect for a hot bath to relax in the evening.  It has a cute ribbon tied around it’s collar along with a cute anti rusting bell.  The idea is you swirl it in the bath water to create a heavenly, softening bubble bath, packed full of bubbles and a Christmassy aroma of cinnamon, orange and almond.

Stardust is a snowy white Frozen inspired bath bomb with bergamont to uplift you.  Inside it’s white exterior lies a blue and white swirly mass of bubbles and a surprise of edible stars that will float around your bathtub twinkling under the lights.

lush aMagic Wand is a silver glitter coated pink bubble bar on a stick with a festive bell and ribbon attached.  I know my daughter will just love this so got her one to try out.

Five Gold Rings are individual bubble bars, glistening and tied onto a ribbon.  With a sparkly gold coat they are infused with fair trade vanilla and uplifting moringa oil.

Peeping Santa is a rather cute bubble bar that can be split into two halves for two baths!  Bursting with strawberry sweet bergamot and geranium oils and cocoa butter in the middle section, this sounds like a refreshing but relaxing bath full of bubbles.

Candy Mountain is a swirling pink bubble bar rich in vanilla for a soft, relaxing soak.

lush bNext stop, the shower section which was packed full of an array of different and interesting products.  First off, Snow Fairy, a popular favourite with candy floss aromas in a delectable pink colour.   I was tempted but opted to try the Rose Jam as I’m rather partial to to roses and love their fragrance. Never having tried Rose Jam I’m keen to give it a try in the shower over the next few weeks and trust me, it smells heavenly!

lush 7The Icing on the Cake Roulade is a shower smoothie and definitely one that looked quite luxurious, full of citrus peels and chestnut puree.  Perfect for a relaxing shower at the end of the day.

Santa’s Scrub is a mixture of castor sugar, dates and cherries to leave your lips smooth and soft and then you can follow it with Santa Baby, a long lasting lip tint with carrot oil and cinnamon.

Something that was new to me was shower jelly in the form of Santa’s Belly or Snowman.  They literally are just like jelly but quite stable and you rub them over your body to lather them up and wash.

The Cranberry Festive Face Mask smelt lovely and felt great on the back of my hand.  I think this would be wonderful on your face, packed with cranberries, fennel seeds, argan oil and rose clay.  It left the back of my hand feeling smooth and soft.

lush 5The soap bars available this Christmas are Yog Nog, Snow Cake and Baked Alaska shown below along with Reindeer Rock which I didn’t catch a picture off.

lush 2With so many products on offer, you really need to visit a store to check them all out.  Some I haven’t had time to mention are Christingle a body conditioner, Fairy Dust a fun glittery powder along with lots of other bath bombs and bubble bars.  Get along to your local store today and check out the amazing array of ethical goodies to fill your bathroom during the festive season.

I must just mention the Christmas gift selection with it’s cleverly thought out packaging, all very ethically sourced I must add.  Christmas Wishes is a wind up carousel that plays a festive tune, Sleeps ‘Til Christmas has a countdown dial on the front to help you count down the days and The Human Cannonball with it’s cracker snap to open the box that greets you with a colourful display!

lush 6I’m going to finish off with a quick overview of the Halloween range of which includes Lord of Misrule bath bomb and shower gel, Nightwing shower jelly and Sparkly Pumpkin which I couldn’t resist trying.  With juniperberry, lime and grapefruit oils this filled my bath with bubbles and left my skin feeling supersoft and relaxed. Definitely one to use again.

lush 8Keep an eye out for my review of the Xmas products once I’ve tried them in a future post.

Casdon Wooden Beach Villa Play Set – Review

Casdon Wooden Beach Villa Play Set is a completely fold up self contained playset that you can pack up and take along with you with carry holes in the top.

casdonThe playset has two fold down sides to set the scene and inside two floors with stairs going up to the top floor.  The scenes on the open sides depicts a beach to help bring this set to life and aid young ones imaginations.

casdon 5There are also a number of accessories included, from a beach bar to stools, bed, tv, windsurf board, sun loungers, palm trees, two wooden figures plus a few more.

casdon 2I love how the playset can be packed up to just a small size box with all the contents inside for portable play and also to keep things tidy.

casdon 6Children can really let their imaginations go with this set, as 4 yr old Mister B did.  He had lots of adventures especially with the wind surfer!  There are plenty of pieces included to use to play although Mister B did add in his own boat so that both figures could go sailing off to sea!

casdon 4Being wooden this Casdon Beach Villa playset set is sturdy and durable, there are no small pieces to break off and everything that is glued together feels strong.  Aimed at children 3-6 years it really is something for those who love using their imagination through play as my son does.

There are other wooden playsets of a similar style to this one available from Casdon, including a Castle and Pirate playsets, so be sure to check them out!

Miles Kelly Children’s Books – Review

Miles Kelly is an independent children’s book publisher that covers everytime of book from fiction, non fiction, activity books and sticker books.  They really have a wide umbrella of titles, something for everyone.

We received a selection of books suitable to my children’s ages to try out and I have to say we were impressed by them all.  They are are of an excellent quality and my children were eager to get reading when they saw them.

miles kelly 4Miss M starting looking through the 100 Facts Solar System and recalled some things she recognised from learning at school last year.  Each page of this book is full colour and packed full of annotated pictures and fact files whilst going through 100 interesting facts about the solar system.  Going through the book with her, we found some facts that turned into quite fascinating talking points which even my young son enjoyed listening to and making sounds/actions to, demonstrating the points we were discussing, such as meteorites being blasted out of the surface by other rocks smashing into them!

miles kellyI think it’s great when children can take in snippets of information from books like this as you know it’s something that they will remember.  The book is fun to look through and you can read as much or as little as you like at a time.  There are short quizzes dotted throughout the book to test your knowledge of the pages you’ve just read which is always fun when you are going through the book together, encouraging children to want to learn so they get the answers right.

The book that really grabbed Miss M’s attention is the mini Encyclopedia of British History, although surprising, I knew she would be interested as she is currently learning British History at school and really does have an interest in seeing things outside of school that are relevant to what she is learning.  She immediately sat flicking through this book and seemed quite engrossed, but she had come across the era that all her homework is based on this term, Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age.  She found a great labelled picture of a round house from which she used the information for her own drawing of a round house which she had to label. And she was really inspired about the Iron Age hill forts and got lots of ideas for the model she had to make for one of her school assignments.

miles kelly 6This book gives a fascinating journey through time in Britain from the era where woolly mammoths existed right up to the 2012 London Olympics.  With just short of 400 pages this mini encyclopedia is packed full of infomation in short bursts of paragraphs and facts with lots of colour illustrations to engage the reader.

Reading Together Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a brilliant story and activity book for those just starting to read.  Mister B started school this year but his reading is already progressing well and this book has been great for him.  Not to mention Goldilocks has been a topic at school this term!

miles kelly 2The book follows the story of Goldilocks along illustrated pages but at the bottom of each page are some words for your child to read related to words or sounds in the story.  There are 70 stickers to use within the book encouraging children to learn their phonics and find the right ones for each pages activity.  This really engaged Mister B and made the learning fun and is different to other phonics based activity books I’ve come across.

miles kelly 3Our final book is The Three Little Pigs, a picture book for young children.  A lovely size with full colour pages that are beautifully illustrated, this is an excellent rendition of the traditional tale.  The pictures are fun and engaging, with plenty for young children to look at, point at and tell you what they think is going on in the story.  I know Mister B loves giving his version of the a story’s events before I read a page, showing that he’s engaging to what he’s listened to previously.

Overall I think the Miles Kelly books are of excellent quality and full of engaging content for children.  They are beautifully put together and there is such a wide variety of books available to cover each child’s tastes that there really is something for everyone.  My children have thoroughly enjoyed these books, and this is definitely a publisher that I’d recommend.

Garden Ornaments – Review

Gardens2you is a garden ornament and accessory online store, brimming with beautiful items to decorate your garden.  From pretty planters to lighting, bird care to decorative pieces there really is something for everyone and lots to make your garden look fun and interesting.

gardenThis pack of three steel wind spinners are really attractive.  I love the shiny silver that adds reflection in the garden.  The pack contains a diamond, heart and flower shaped spinner all approximately 20cm across.  The spinners have a long thread with a ring at the top to simply hang over a hook or branch of your choosing.

garden 2The spinners sections can be easily bent round to make them 3D and help them spin round in the wind.  I think they look really pretty in the garden particularly on a sunny day when the light is captured on them.  They are frost and weather resistant, although I think I’d keep them inside during the wettest months and hang them out again in the Spring.  A lovely addition to brighten up any garden!

I wouldn’t say I’m normally a fan of garden gnomes, but this cute little pair have brought me round and sit proudly in different places in the garden.  The children have taken to them rather fondly and have chosen one each which they have positioned in the garden.

garden 4“Pike and Pine” are a nature inspired set of mini gnomes perched upon things they’ve found in the garden.  Approximately 12.5cm tall and made from weatherproof resin, this are great for a fun feature, or little objects to hide around your garden.  Being green and brown they blend well into the outdoors and look quite at home.

garden 3We love these little fellas who’ve made our garden their home and keep the children occupied moving them about and trying to find them again.  There are many other pairs of gnomes like these available so you should pop over to Gardens2you to check them out.

All reviews are my own and my family’s opinions and we received the ornaments in order to write the review.

Schleich Dragon Island Figures – Review

Schleich dragons from the Dragon Island series are a great set of mythical figurines that are of the familiar high quality I’ve come to love and know with Schleich.  Each figure is intricately detailed and hand painted to give it an impressive look that draws children into an imaginative world of play.

3829374_R_Z001A420-3804605-ALR183X

There are six dragons in the series:

  • Dragon Flyer
  • Dragon Hunter
  • Dragon Fighter
  • Dragon Warrior
  • Dragon Runner
  • Dragon Battering Ram

We received Dragon Fighter and Dragon Runner shown above, and I have to say they were larger than expected with dimensions being up to 20cm across.  This makes them great for play and my little boy loved holding them and fighting them against each other.

dragon 1They really bring out my little boys imagination and you can hear him talking about their features and how they are going to fight as they go into battle against each other.  The detail really is fantastic on these and you can’t see any joins in the body.  They seem very durable as the plastic isn’t solid, it has a slightly flexibleness to it which allows for a bit of rough play.

dragon 2We love these dragons from Schleich and think they’ll be very popular with young children especially if they are into figure toys. Schleich have a huge range of figurines available in all sorts of ranges.  I’ve just spotted the new Peanuts range that has been launched so there really is something for everyone!

All reviews are my own and my family’s opinions and we received the dragons in order to write the review.

Avoid the 5p carrier bag charge with Trolley bags – Giveaway

With the 5p carrier bag charge introduced this week, the search for the perfect reusuable bags is upon us and I have found just the thing to use in supermarkets.  From the company Packing Sorted comes these rather clever Trolley Bags!

WP_20151003_14_22_39_ProAs you can see they fit perfectly in your trolley, meaning no wasted space and just four bags to lift out into your car.  What’s more, they are all velcroed to each other at the top to stop them sliding apart until you need to remove them , but they also all roll up together for easy storage in your car boot between shopping trips.

WP_20151003_14_18_54_ProWP_20151003_14_20_49_ProThey are easy to carry into the supermarket as demonstrated by my 4yr old son on the left who loves to help out!

Then you simply hang them on the hook at the end of your trolley as above whilst you shop.  If you are scanning your own shopping you can of course put the items straight into the bags otherwise keep them rolled up until you go through the till.

The beauty of these bags are that there’s no messing around trying to open fiddly carrier bags, you simply place the bags at the end of the trolley and open them out to the end.  They have velcro at the top to keep them together, which you then simply undo to lift them into the car.

WP_20151003_15_06_18_ProThese really do make shopping so simple and are the perfect solution to avoid the carrier bag charge.  These are built to last, fill the whole trolley and can be used time and time again.  As you can see the ones above are designed for a shallow trolley but they do also make a set for a large trolley which you can see here.

For one of my readers, I am giving away a set of Trolley Bags.  All you have to do is fill out the Gleam form below.
