Little Live Pets Butterfly Jungle Fashion – Review

Little Live Pets Butterfly Jungle Fashion is one of the new Series 2 range of butterflies from Character Options, a collection of butterflies that magically come alive and flutter their pretty wings in your hand.  They come in a choice of six designs:

  • Jungle Fashion
  • Frozen Iceland
  • Precious Paris
  • Tropical Beauty
  • Cherry Blossom
  • Precious Wings

The Little Live Pets Butterfly Jungle Fashion has a brightly coloured body and wings that immediately appealed to 7yr old Miss M, and she couldn’t wait to get the butterfly out to play.

The butterfly comes with a base, a suction window holder and requires 2 AA batteries for the base.  The base is a solid sturdy piece that the butterfly happily sits on and “feeds”.  Once the butterfly has fed, you can place it in your hands and watch it flutter.  The more you feed and play with your butterfly, the longer and smoother the sequence of flutters will be on your hand.

Both my children have become really attached to this butterfly which I wasn’t expecting but after school each day, they make sure they let the butterfly feed then have a flutter in their hands.  It has become like a little pet for them that they take turns in interacting with.  I think the bright, attractive design helps as my daughter tried one last year but wasn’t so keen.

I think this is a great little interactive toy that encourages children to look after something.  I’ve ensured they are gentle with it so as not to crush it’s wings and taught them how to handle it with care.

The Little Live Pets Butterfly Jungle Fashion has been a hit with us and Miss M likes to put the butterfly in the sucker holder on her bedroom window at night.  I think if your child enjoys this then they are pretty good value for money.

Overall a cute little interactive toy that’s well made and is fun for children!

Cra-Z-Sand Purple Playset – Review

The new Cra-Z-Sand Deluxe Purple Playset from Character Options was bound to be a  hit with my two children as they love sand, they love arts & crafts, they love being creative and they love making mess!!

cra-z-sand xMy children’s eyes lit up when they saw the set and they couldn’t wait to play.  Fortunately with the recent run of good weather, we took the opportunity to play outside.  The set consisted of a pack of purple coloured sand, a sturdy plastic tray to play in (although my children preferred to play on the art mat), a roller and various scrapers to cut and sculpt the sand any way you wish.

cra-z-sandThe sand is a really pliable texture and can be moulded and shaped anyway you wish.  Just as easily as it can be broken up and flows through your fingers, it can be compacted and moulded into a perfect shape.

I have to say my two didn’t need any encouragement with this, they just got on and happily played, loving pressing there fingers into the sand and rolling it into balls etc.  The sand is a really satisfying texture that feels soft and is totally non-sticky!

cra-z-sand 2

We used some sand moulds we already had to make shapes and they really do turn out perfectly formed with a simple tap and wiggle of the mould.  This makes it really satisfying for children to see and feel that they have achieved something quite amazing.

cra-z-sand 3

I really liked Cra-Z-Sand and can confirm that my children loved it!!  They have already asked if I can get them some different colours to play with.  I think this is a fun, enjoyable, tactile play substance that although really isn’t that messy.  It’s dry, non sticky and can be brushed off or hoovered up quite easily.  The tray and accessories are strong and sturdy making this a good quality set.

We give Cra-Z-Sand a big thumbs up as we all enjoyed it, had lots of fun and loved the texture of it!!

Hot Dots® BrainBox® Let’s Learn! About Our World

Hot Dots® BrainBox® Let’s Learn! About Our World is a great way for children to learn about other countries using an interactive pen and books that they can work through independently.
Hot_Dots_Lets_Learn_About_Our_World_SetThe set consists of an interactive Hot Dots pen, which requires two AA batteries, it can then be used with any books from the series.  This set contains three books about countries around the world:
  • Flags
  • Capitals and Currencies
  • Places
hotdotsMiss M who is 7, often asks inquisitive questions about countries, such as “What flag is that?” or “What country is this in?”, so I knew she would enjoy learning from this interactive experience that is both fun and educational and can also be done independently.
The books are of a great quality, having highly laminated thick pages that easily turn and sit flat due to their spiral binding at the edge.  All pages are brightly coloured with plenty to look at and help maintain interest.
I think the books have been well thought out giving children a great insight into other countries.  I particularly like the “Places” book which teaches the children about famous landmarks that belong to each country as well as typical animals, foods and items that come from each one.  It really is a fun little book that will build a good cultural knowledge in children without them realising that they are learning.
hotdots2Although Miss M could sit working through these books herself, it did encourage her to ask me questions about things and gave us talking points which was really nice and showed she was genuinely interested in what she was learning.
Due to the compact size of this set, it is not only ideal to do at home, but great for car journeys and keeping children occupied out and about.
hotdots3Miss M’s really enjoyed the Hot Dots® BrainBox® Let’s Learn! About Our World set and it is something she has done again and again, sometimes remembering facts, and other times having to think what the answer might me.
There is a lot of information to take in, therefore these books will last and can be looked at many times.  A great value learning resource that’s both fun and educational.  We love Hot Dots!

Easter Fun at Saltram House National Trust

For us as a family, Easter wouldn’t be the same without a visit to one of our favourite national trust properties to follow an Easter trail.  The children love them, it’s great to be out in the fresh air and there is always a pleasant atmosphere at the national trust properties.  We visited Saltram House in Plymouth last weekend for the children to follow their Easter trail.

saltram 1Once the children had their maps they were off, running along the paths looking for the clues.  It didn’t take long for Miss M to spot the explorer hat hanging from a bush and Mister B found the magnifying glass hanging from a tree on the lawn.

saltram 4On the lawn we spotted a small marquee tent and ventured inside to find a couple of sand pits arranged as an “archaeological dig”.  Each sand pit had the pieces of a puzzle which we needed to find and then complete the puzzle.  My two couldn’t wait to start digging and were soon passing me pieces of puzzle – a really fun activity!

saltram 3Back onto the Easter trail and Mister B was the first one to spot the spade stuck in the ground.  He loved looking for the objects and carefully marked them off as he found them on his trail map.

saltram 5I just love the beautiful plants and flowers that can be found in National Trust gardens and here are just a few that I saw here today.

saltram 2And this tree was simply stunning!

saltram 6We had a wonderful day wandering round and the children loved the trail, especially at the end when they collected their chocolate eggs!

Tommy Tucker Popcorn – Review

I’d never heard of Tommy Tucker popcorn when I was sent some to review, but little did I know what I was missing out on.  Everything from the packaging to the taste has completely hit the spot with me and without doubt I would recommend

tommy tuckerThe packaging stood out for me as soon as I saw it, very classy looking, definitely one I’d pick up if I saw it.  The choice of flavours is quite vast and we received a selection, Luxury Toffee, Sweet ‘n’ Salt, Coconut Toffee and Fruits of the Forest.

I have to say immediately the Luxury Toffee appealed to me and it didn’t disappoint, it just melted in the mouth, a luxury taste of buttery popcorn – I could go on eating this one, in fact the family didn’t get much of a look in! lol

The children were keen on the Sweet ‘n’ Salt as well as the Luxury Toffee and enjoyed it as the perfect Saturday night tv snack.  They were bickering over the last few balls in the bowl and kept asking for more which is a good sign and confirms that they really did enjoy them.

Not being a fan of coconut myself, but knowing the husband is, I saved the Coconut Toffee for him to try and without telling him what it was, I gave him a bowlful.  He took a few pieces and immediately said “Oh wow, that’s nice!”  so I can assure you if you are a fan of coconut then this will be a hit!

Fruits of the Forest is an unusual flavour of popcorn and although it was quite pleasant and we all enjoyed it, we had other favourites that we preferred, but definitely worth a try for a different taste sensation.

tommy popcornAll in all, our overall opinion of Tommy Tucker popcorn is that it is excellent.  Fabulous quality, taste and something for everyone.  We all recommend it and think it’s an excellent snack that we thoroughly enjoyed!

All reviews are my own opinions and I received the popcorn in order to write the review.

Sooty ABC : Learn the Alphabet DVD – Review

Sooty ABC : Learn the Alphabet DVD is the latest release from Sooty and friends but also a little bit different.  Rather than being jam packed full of fun episodes, this DVD introduces the alphabet to viewers in a fun and exciting way.

sootyThe main adventure sees friends, Sooty, Sweep and Soo visit Wookey Hole in Somerset discovering items beginning with each letter of the alphabet.  I love the way the story guides you through the letters looking for objects for each letter.  There is a poster included with the DVD which reiterates the same objects found as on the DVD, a useful guide for little ones to look at and practice their letters and objects.

sooty poster4yr old Mister B loves Sooty, and although knows his letters, is only just learning to read, so associating words with their starting letter is a great game for him.  He has the poster in his bedroom and loves going through the letters and telling me the word that goes with them.

Aside from the main episode on the DVD there are three other episodes and also some extras.  There is a short video through the alphabet showing an object for each letter.  There is also a song about it which little ones love, my boy loves to get up and dance to the music, any excuse for a wiggle and he’s there!

The Sooty ABC DVD has been a hit with us and is a great way for little ones to learn without realising, whilst watching something they enjoy.  This DVD is definitely something different from the usual Sooty DVD’s and one they my 4yr old enjoyed.

Time Bomb Skincare – Review

Although I’ve always tried to look after my skin, hitting 40 means I want to try a bit harder to protect my skin from ageing, so I was keen to try Time Bomb skincare.  They have a simple but focused approach targeting key areas to fight the signs of ageing.

A collection of powerhouse formulas and breakthrough innovations developed to help women of all ages “stop the clock!”

WP_010446Time Bomb is a stylish but functional range of skincare that looks good on the dressing table but how does it work on the skin?

Powerball Intensive Moisturiser aims to:

– Defeats acute and chronic skin dehydration
– Super surge loads and locks parched skin with critical water
– Restores soft, smooth, moist texture to dry, crinkled skin

I found the Powerball Intensive Moisturiser to be thick, rich but very lightweight and just melted onto the skin.  It felt exceptionally hydrating and a welcome boost to my skin each day.  I have been using this product for the past month and my skin definitely feels more supple, hydrated, softer and firmer, resulting in a more youthful feel.

Youth Juice Secret Oil aims to:

– Mimics skin’s natural sebum to replace oils no longer produced by ageing skin
– Absorbs instantly for non-greasy feel
– Plumps, protects and helps seal in natural moisture

I love the heavenly scent of Youth Juice, the blend of oils hits you as you open the bottle.  Containing olive, kukui, avocado, jojoba and more along with vitamins C and E, this really does enrich your skin and leaves it feeling velvety soft.  This should be applied under moisturiser in both morning and evening and really gives skin that added boost and glow it needs as it gets older.

The Time Bomb combination that I have been using has been perfect for my normal type of skin leaving it exceptionally soft, richly hydrated and maintaining a youthful glow!

Magnetic Date Chart and Reward Stamps Review

Meadow Kids are a great little company supplying toys and games aimed at pre schoolers and children in Key Stage 1.  I have two children, one who is in pre school and one in key stage 1 so I was keen to find out more about their products and try them out.  We received a Tell Me About Today magnetic chart and a Reward Wooden Stamp Set to review.

The Tell Me About Today chart is a thick, sturdy piece of board with a corded hanging loop.  the chart is magnetic and comes with 47 magnetic pieces with numbers for dates, days of the week, months, seasons, weather and years.

today chartThis is a fun, interactive and educational chart that can be updated each day with the day of the week and the date.  Also things like the weather can be changed whilst other things need changing less often such as the month and season.

today chart 2This has been great for both of my children and something that they enjoy doing and are learning from at the same time.  My eldest who’s 7, has some concept of what date it is, and is eager to be first down in the morning to change it to the new day.  My little boy who’s 4 and only just learning to read helps by finding the right numbers or looks for days starting with the right letter and together they are able to correctly update the chart.  It’s also got us practising days of the week with my youngest and getting the months in the right order for my eldest.

meadowWe’ve found the Tell Me About Today chart a great learning tool and kept it hanging in the hallway so we can see the date everytime we walk by.  A success with my two children!

*****************************************

The Reward Wooden Stamp Set consists of 15 wooden and rubber stamps along with two ink pads all contained in a little reclosable bag.  It’s a cute little set with logos on the stamps such as:

  • Super Duper
  • Thumbs Up
  • The Best
  • Keep It Up
  • You’re a Star
  • Keep It Up
  • Ok
  • Winner
  • Yay

as well with a few others and four cute little picture stamps, smiley face, sad face, heart and star.  All the large stamps have fun images around the words to make them attractive to children.

My children loved the idea of these and had fun stamping pictures each other had done with an appropriate stamp.  They also play pretend schools a lot at home at the moment which these have been perfect for as part of their play.

What we are looking to do though is create their own reward charts which they can stamp each day with how well they did each activity.  I’m hoping this will help motivate them into  getting things done and doing as they are told!!

We’ve loved trying some products from the Meadow Kids range, they have proved both useful and educational, whilst being fun and entertaining for the children to do.
