Nanobytes Space Themed Sweets – Review

Nanobytes are new Space themed sweets that are small, round and come in a choice of three flavours, Strawberry, BubbleGum and Cola.  They are packaged in shiny, eye catching metallic packets that are resealable should you want to save some for another time.

Nanobytes group shotThe sweets come in a small meteorite like shape and have a crunchy outside shell that breaks to reveal a chewy inside.  Each ball gives you quite a strong burst of realistic flavour that is enjoyable without being overbearing.

When Miss M came home from school I let her taste test each flavour.  Her reaction was “Mmmm, I like these”.  The small size was perfect for her to chew.  Once she had tried a few of each flavour, I asked her which one was her favourite, and although I thought she’d go for the cola, she replied “Strawberry is the best one but I like them all”.  So it’s a thumbs up from Miss M.

Nanobytes sweets

Nanobytes will be available not only in the larger resealable bags, but smaller treat sized packs ideal for children.  The sweets are all gluten-free, suitable for vegetarians and GMO free which is a bonus making them suitable for more dietary requirements than some sweets on the market.

You can find out more about Nanobytes on the new website www.lotsoflittlesweets.com where special online games will be available as well as competition, downloads etc.

Also why not follow them on their Facebook page or Twitter feed.

Scooby Doo Trap Time Deluxe Mystery Machine – Review

Scooby Doo is one of my children’s favourite programmes and something that I used to watch as child.  It’s so nice to see it being enjoyed so many years later with the same enthusiastic viewing and excitement watching the latest adventure that Scooby Doo and the gang get up to int their mystery machine.

So when the latest version of the mystery machine, Scooby Doo Trap Time Deluxe Mystery Machine from Character Options arrived to be tested out – their eyes lit up eager to open the box and get stuck in.

Scooby Doo Trap Time Mystery machine playsetThe Scooby Doo Time Trap Mystery Machine Playset can be played with as just a vehicle or opens out to reveal traps to catch the monsters.  The top of the mystery machine unfolds along with both sides and the back which my two children loved unfolding.  Inside is a cage on a folding arm that you can move around.  The cage can be opened and closed to catch monsters inside.  There is also a net with two posts that you can attach and press a button to eject and the net flies out to land on top of a monster.

The first thing that both my children noticed and were a little disappointed at was that no figures are included with the mystery machine although they have now added this to their Christmas list to get some.  Once I explained that the figures come separately, they soon began to play using some other figures we had at home and let their imaginations take them on adventures with the mystery machine.

Scooby Doo Trap Time Mystery Machine playset characterMy children have had lots of fun playing with the Scooby Doo Time Trap playset, putting little figures in the front to drive the vehicle around, then opening up the back to catch the “baddies”.  They have played with it together, one sitting each side and it has really encouraged their imagination and allowed them to be creative in their play.  They love the fact it’s Scooby Doo and a vehicle they recognise from the programme.

The Mystery Machine is a plastic vehicle although does seem quite robust in it’s build so should last the rough and tumble of little hands playing with it.  I was a bit worried with all the hinges and doors to be opened but it looks like it has been designed to ensure they won’t easily break.  I think this would be great value for any little Scooby Doo fan – a toy sure to inspire and be played with in various ways.

Spaghetti with the Yeti – Children’s Book Review

Spaghetti with the Yeti is a fun, new children’s picture book from Egmont.  The story follows a young boy George who is on a mission to find a yeti, taking along with him a tin of spaghetti to see if the yeti likes it.

Spahetti with the Yeti from egmont press

The Spaghetti and the Yeti book is perfect to read to little ones with bright, interesting illustrations covering each page and a couple of rhyming storylines to go with it.  The rhyming makes it easy to read and fun for the children to listen to.  As George sets off to find a yeti, he comes across various other creatures along the way – each of which 5 yr old Miss M thought were hilarious and had her in fits of giggles looking at the illustrations.  She even attempted to read the book to herself which was really good and then read it to her little brother.

Spaghetti with the Yeti Egmont bookWe really enjoyed this book and it had a lovely ending with George finally finding a very friendly yeti and they sit down together to share his tin of spaghetti.  Spaghetti and the Yeti is great entertainment for young children either during the day or at bedtime – this one has been picked for the bedtime story pile every night so far!

Underpants Wonderpants – Children’s Book Review

Underpants Wonderpants from Parragon books is a wonderfully fun story by Peter Bently and illustrated by Deborah Melmon.  It’s a brightly coloured picture book about Underpants Wonderpants, a super hero dog who always comes to the rescue of people and animals wherever they may be.

Underpants WonderpantsI read this with 5 yr old Miss M and 2 yr old Mister B.  They loved the illustrations and found plenty of things to point out.  The story is quite short so kept their attention and with it’s rhyming lines it was easy to read.  They found the pants on every page amusing as Underpants Wonderpants the dog used them as a “pantachute” to help the queen to the ground, as a scoop to gather water to put a fire out and as a sling to zap the aliens back to space.

This book is a fun, amusing read with full colour pages to keep children visually entertained as well as listening to the story.  Mister B liked counting various objects on pages such as mice, fish and ants as well as telling me the colour of the various pairs of pants on each page!  We’ve had lots of fun and giggles with it and it has become one of the bedtime stories every night this week.  A great little story that’s sure to entertain any young child.

Personalised Water Bottle by It’s Your Story

One thing my children use every day is a water bottle, be it at home, school or just out and about.  It’s My Story is a fabulous online site offering personalisation on numerous items such as books, clothes and gifts.  We were sent a personalised water bottle to try which I knew would be an instant hit with Miss M.

The novelty of having a new bottle plus the fact that it had her name and picture on it was always going to be a winner.  I’d let her select a theme of her choice and she requested to be a nurse.

It's your story drinks water bottleThe It’s Your Story water bottles are made from hard wearing aluminium and come in a white finish like the one we received or you can choose silver.  There are also 15 different characters to choose from such as pirate, monkey, princess, pop star etc.

We loved the Nurse design for Miss M – she was thrilled to see her face on the bottle.  A great idea in fact, meaning that should she ever leave her bottle behind or get it mixed up with other children’s, there’s no confusing which one is hers.  I was slightly concerned about the design staying put on the bottle but so far so good and It’s Your Story say “the dye sinks into the aluminium making it very robust and scratch and chip resistant” which is good to hear.

The bottle is strong and well made and as an added bonus you get a choice of bottle tops, the standard water bottle top or a screw top with fob attachment.  The bottle is great for keeping drinks cool too.

Overall this bottle has been a big success here with us, both for me and Miss M.  I think these would make fantastic gifts for children, being unique, useful and personalised.  A sure winner every time!

DC Super Friends Magazine

My children love magazines and are always lured by the toys on the front cover so when we received the brand new DC Super Friends magazine their eyes lit up eager to see what was inside.  DC Super Friends is all about the world’s superheroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, The Flash and many more along side their baddies.  The magazine is primarily aimed at young boys between 2-5 years old and every issue comes with a free toy.

DC super friends magazineThe first issue comes with two communicators with switching screens which you can turn over to show different characters.  Mister B was immediately drawn to these and couldn’t wait to pretend talking into them and spent the rest of the day carrying it around.

The DC Super Friends magazine is full of activities including a story, colouring in, observational puzzles, spot the difference, code puzzles and much more.  There is also a making section to create a Batman mask and Batmobile by cutting and sticking onto card – great for little ones that love to make – I know my children do.

DC superfriends magazineI think this magazine contains a great variety of activities for little ones to do, inspiring their imagination and lots of quick fire questions and observations to keep them alert and thinking about things.  Mister B was fascinated by all the super heroes, Batman being his favourite the moment.  He loved spotting Batman’s logo as we went though the magazine and asked me what others were that he didn’t already know.  He also liked the page discussing colours and he went through each superheroes outfit telling me what the colours were.

Overall I think this is a lovely magazine for young boys, although at the younger age they will require supervision to complete this, but for me it is a nice activity for me to sit down and help Mister B with.

There’s also a couple of competitions included which you can get involved in to win superhero prizes so if you fancy trying a copy with your children when the DC Super Friends magazine goes on sale in the UK on the 19th September 2013 which you can find in supermarkets and newsagents.

Good discounts are available for subscribers, details of which can be found at www.titanmagazines.com/superfriends and within the magazine itself.

My Big Animal Book – Review

One thing we love in this house are books, and animal books always seem to go down well, so I was pleased to receive My Big Animal Book from Tick Tock books to read with my children.

My Big Animal BookMy Big Animal Book is a hardback reference book with thick glossy pages covering the world of animals from the jungle to under the sea, at the farm and animals at home.  Each double page spread covers a different animal or group of animals and gives various facts about their lifestyles, habitats, ways of life and characteristics of the animals.

This book is a fabulous introduction to animals with little bite size facts that are easy for children to digest.  I have sat reading this with my 5yr old Miss M.  With each turn of the page, you move onto different animals keeping children intrigued.  She thoroughly enjoyed looking through the pages, listening to the facts and eagerly taking it all on board.  I was surprised to hear her give me additional facts about certain animals that I didn’t know she knew as well as ask questions about things in the book.  She loved looking at the pictures, identifying what she knew as the images are clear and bright – great for maintain little ones interest.

My Big Animal Book reviewWe have loved this book, more than I initially thought.  It has plenty of intriguing general knowledge facts to learn and although educational has proved interesting and fun to sit and look through together.  I’m sure we’ll have many more fun times looking through it – I’d definitely recommend My Big Animal Book – a great factual book for little ones.

Elektra Inline Skates – Review

Inline skating was something I remember doing many years ago, and I knew when Miss M received some Elektra Inline Skates from Ozbozz, she’d be thrilled, partly because she’s always wanted to try skating but also because she loves being outdoors.

Inline Elektra SkatesThe look on 5yr old Miss M’s face said it all when she saw these inline skates, they were pink – her favourite colour, they were big grown up inline skates and she couldn’t wait to try them on and skate across the front room.

What I liked about the Elektra Inline Skates is that they are adjustable and can be made to fit shoe sizes between 13 and 3.  This is fantastic with Miss M just being a 13 means she will have plenty of use out of them and they’ll hopefully last a few years.  By simply sliding the outer casing forward and back you can change the size, the inner lining also can be adapted according to size with velcro.

These are well designed solid skates that easily glide across the ground.  The next day we tried them at the local park and I was surprised at how quickly Miss M found her feet and was gliding across the ground, with the odd stumble of course, but having little fear at her age she just went for it and did very well.  A few more tries and she’ll be a fabulous little skater.

WP_003060We have had so much fun with these inline skates – Miss M thinks they are brilliant and wants to go to the park with them at any given opportunity.  I think they will get a lot of use over the next few years and definitely recommend them.
